acasas Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Was wondering if any1 knows what i can expect from the tune? I have 2008 reg cab Silverado 4.8 with magnaflow exhaust and GMPP CAI.
Visegrip117 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Cant say for sure, as I dont have one. But from what i read on here, its the best thing for your truck since fuel
66nova Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Cant say for sure, as I dont have one. But from what i read on here, its the best thing for your truck since fuel Crap, it's better then that! I can't tell you for sure what kind of hp gains you will get. But, most are between 25-45hp. The hp gains are just icing on the cake though. What the real benefit is the increased drivability and he gives you access to the original power you paid for. The truck will shift better, wind tighter, no more delay when you nail the gas, no more speed limiter, better mileage (assuming you aren't using all of that new power). Get the point. You need to take Nike's advice here... JUST DO IT! You will not be sorry.

ShimanoFisherman Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 not to thread jack but are there any recommendations on what to get done or should i just let Justin do his thing? Im getting mine done in Memphis this weekend. Everyone wants more power and more fuel efficiency. But I think the biggest decision you have to make is how aggressive you want the tune. That'll also drive what octane fuel is required going forward. I'd think you would want to go to the tune with a tank of fuel that you plan on using going forward. Maybe not a full tank, but try to run out as much old fuel if you're gonna be using something different. I made sure I went there with 93 Chevron for my tune. But since that's what I normally use anyway, I didn't have to worry about other gas in the tank. There'll be a night and day difference after the tune whatever you do.
xaugievike Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Just installed one of their "off the shelf" tunes - my impressions: If I could generalize, I'd say that the thing you will notice the most is that the gas pedal actually feels like it's connected to the motor. Zero hesitation. I only upped my shift firmness by one "level." Under normal circumstances I dont notice a difference at all....if I'm on it a bit the shifts are much much faster and firmer - they feel quite nice. At speed if you punch it the downshift is also nearly instantaneous....again, the hesitation is all but a memory. I dont know about more "power" since I've not dyno'd. But worst case scenario is that the power that you are supposed to have is actually there....and it's there NOW. This may be what gives most guys the impression of more power. On an interstate drive Christmas weekend I hit 15.9 mpgs (side note...ticks me off when you hit those .9's....16.0 would have been so much sweeter!)....that's 1.5mpg increase over the best i'd ever seen (yes, i keep track) in an ambient temp that was 50+ degrees colder than my previous best (I say that b/c my truck HATES winter temps).
HDNut Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 By having your truck tuned, does this void your powertrain warranty?
jro909 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 By having your truck tuned, does this void your powertrain warranty? hell yes, you just have to swap pcms if you decide to take it for work

5615mike Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Really looking forward to my tune in Houston the 3rd week of Feb. on my 07 Denali. I have been a little discouraged by the mileage but no real worries as I like the performance. I am definately going to have the tranny tuned as I really hate how it searches for a gear under cruise when the grade changes slightly. Sometimes it downshifts to 4th and runs up the R's and holds it for an extended period of time. I usually just turn off the cruise and handle the speed with footfeet and then go back to cruise. I hope the tune improves that along with a little increase in mileage. Someone mentioned changing the PCM prior to taking vehicle in for warrently work. Is that a big deal to change? I have a 75,000 mile warrenty and would prefer no to lose 35k of warranty.
Jennabear Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Folks who anticipate dealer visits tend to purchase spare modules in order to swap them out for visits. You would purchase modules and install them in your truck before meeting up with Justin. Justin will then tune those modules, leaving you with your stock modules to swap back in when you need to go to the dealer. It only takes me ~5 mins to swap out computers.
