i was wondering if anybody knows how to turn on the cargo light without the dome being on in a new sierra. my buddy has on '05 silverado and he just presses a switch. i want to be able to turn it on only so that i can see out of my window and into the bed of my truck at night to make sure nothing as blown out or leaning on anything it shouldn't be. any help would be awesome

You would need to find the wire that goes to the cargo lamps and run a hot wire through a switch and to that wire.

The cargo light comes off the BCM on connector X6 pin 2 then into the left instrument panel junction block X12 pin 6 then out X9 pin 6. If you intercepted that wire anywhere along the way and cut it and applied 12V to the wire that leads to the lamps (not to the BCM) you would light those 2 bulbs. Or you could remove the dome lights and then use the knob to turn the cargo lamp on.

The left instrument panel junction block connector x12 is the brown connector; looking at the end of the connector that goes into the junction block with the release facing up, the lower left pin is 1 the pin to the right is 2. The left instrument panel junction block X9 connector is purple; this connector's pin layout is the same as the previous. The X6 connector on the BCM is pink, pin 2, if you are looking at the end of the connector that plugs into the BCM with the release clip up, the upper right hand pin is 1, the pin to the left is 2.

Hopefully this makes sense, if not, I will try to clarify. Are we allowed to post information from the Helm service manual? I know we were under the GM lockdown for a while.

I want to track down this wire and try to add some sort of switch for my cargo lights.

Same here. It would be nice to be able to use the bed light without turning on the interior lights. I thought about hooking the reverse lights into the bed light for loading my snowmobile at night.

I will see what I find under there later today. Please keep in mind that the info came from brims, so if it is successful than it is all thanks to him.
