Oh The Pain And Humiliation

A friend of mine has a Mazda 3, and he’s always talking smack that his 5-speed 3 is faster than my truck… Well today after work we sort of lined them up. Pulling out of the company parking lot, I goosed it and fished tailed the back around… So when we got up to the light, he was on the outside and I was on the inside… At the light, it’s a sweeping turn to the left, (90 degrees). The inside lane is actually pretty sharp, so I was careful when the light turned not to hammer the throttle to hard… but once around the turn, I pulled the gear selector down to first and hammer the throttle. He was already getting a slight jump on me because I wasn’t on the gas around the turn. When the truck hit first, I broke traction and quickly hit the rev-limiter before I could shift it into second. By that time, he had 1/2 a cars length on me but I was gaining ground. Once we reached the top of the grade (1/8th mile maybe) I left off the gas… He had me by 1/2 a fender.

At the next light, he was laughing his rear off at me telling me “See I told you I could beat you”.. I have to give him that one, but dang nabit.. If I had my blackbear tune, I think I would have had him. GM's granny controls and sloppy shifts...

I kinda blew the shift hitting rev-limiter too, but hey.. You can’t win them all. Now I’m sure when we get to work tomorrow, I’ll have to take his crap for a few days...

Dang little car is quick.. It probably weighs in about 2500 lbs.. And with the 5-speed, that helps alot.

I was feeling froggy awhile back and got into a bit of a race with a Dodge Durango from a stoplight to a lane merge about 3/4 of a mile ahead. We were nose to nose the whole way until he backed off a little. I avoid the little cars just to be safe. Some of those little four cylinders are surprisingly quick.

wait a minute..... that doesnt make a bit of sense! you cant complain about GM nannies AND losing traction at the same time......

race him in a straight line and see what happens, going around a curve puts you at an insane dissadvantage on its own; i bet he was accelerating while turning

edit: but i bet you wouldve blown im away if you had AWD =) (nothings better than slamming that pedal to the floor and taking off like a rocket as opposed to "feathering" it to get traction)

Am i the only one that cant spin the darn tires?

Our 05 sunfire smokes the truck until about 30mph, then its bye bye, all the way to 100mph. The car is really quick in 1st gear, then i have to fred flintstone it to help
