A buddy here at work recently went to the local Goodyear store and the guy highly recommended the Kelly Safari TSR tires. He said that they were made by Goodyear. My friend said that he needed to get at least 50k miles out of them and the guy told him "no problem". He has put around 1000 miles on them and said they ride good and they aren't too noisy. His actual comment was, "they are a lot quieter than I expected them to be"!

 

Anyone have / had these tires? Since I am searching for my next tires, these are on my review list. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

My buddy has some on his '01 Sierra ext cab. He said he likes them alot and they did well in some mud that he put them through... He had Buckshots on his truck before so of course these are alot more quiet. I like the looks of them... They look alot like the Mickey Thompson ATZ's with that tread pattern

I kinda thought they looked a little like the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac. Here's a side by side by side comparison:

Yep got the sidewall of the DuraTrac and the tread pattern of a ATZ if you ask me!

Yep, kinda an offspring of the two! How cute!! :D

 

I have a little time before I actually need tires. I'll keep up the research and check back with my buddy at work to get his feedback on the Safari TSRs.

 

I guess from the slow traffic on this thread, not too many people have purchased these tires. Oh well, maybe the pictures will help someone with their tire purchase decision.

Are you looking at these for everyday use? Do you really need something that aggressive or are you going after the look?

To be honest I am right on the edge...One day I like the aggressive look of these tires and then other days I am back to a more "road friendly" tire. I guess I want the best of both worlds. All the reviews I've seen is that the Duratrac fits that scenario. It a real aggressive AT tire that has excellent road handling characteristics. The Kelly just seems to be a cheaper version.

 

That is why I haven't bought anything yet. Back and forth....back and forth!! :D Research...research...research!! :sigh:

General Grabber AT2 and Cooper Zeon LTZ. Both great tires for on/off road look. :sigh:

Smaller name tires tend to kind of make me

uneasy after I went with the Federal couriaga mt's. AWESOME looking tires but they were a sidewall blow out specialist. I had one blow out. Dad had one pulling a tractor and buddy had 2.

Kelly (Kelly-Springfiled) Tires is far from being a "smaller name tires" company. Here is a brief description about the company...

 

The Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, which became a wholly owned subsidiary of The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1935, is one of the oldest (est 1894) continuously operating tire companies in the nation. The company has the distinction of being the first to develop and manufacture solid rubber tires for carriages and the early automobile. Currently a manufacturer of at least 54 brands of tires for cars, trucks, and farm vehicles, Kelly-Springfield distributes to private dealers and store chains throughout the country. Kelly-Springfield is the country's most important manufacturer of custom brand tires and the world's top producer of farm tires. They may not be a big player in the Truck/SUV market, but they are far from being a smaller name tire company!!

I know they are made by Goodyear but still... you always gotta think they are cheap for a reason.. Not always the case sometimes cheap things are a great deal! Great tires for a low price (same with paying too much for something that sucks) I'm sure they would be fine I'd want to see where someone has been running them for awhile on one of these trucks to see how they performed

I agree completely! That is why I started this thread, but it looks like there aren't too many people running them. I tend to buy tires based on brand name first. So, to even ask about the Kelly tires is a new direction for me. But since I still have a little time before I really need tires, I thought I would "step out of the box" and see what else is out there!

 

BTW, I appreciate you hanging with this thread and providing your input!! :rollin:

No problem! I'm looking for tires for this summer when I put some new ones on so I'm just as interested as you are. I talked to by buddy who has them on his '02 z71 and he seems to like them alot! He said they handle awesome in the mud and aren't noisy at all. I'm gonna try to get him to send me a picture with them on and if I do I'll put it up on here...

      I'm not sure if this should be a new topic, let me know if it's out of place. This my first post. Thanks 85077522 - AC Delco GM Genuine Parts Brake Master Cylinders. Anyone else had to replace this brake master cylinder yet. I didn't do any brake work, it looks like new parts and I've had the truck for about 4k miles, 119k total miles.  When it started to throw codes I did the calibrations with a bidirectional scanner and got the codes to clear but they came back so I did the routine; base bleed, automated bleed and final base bleed. All that with Bosch ES16-32N fluid (please look it up). That seemed to fix it but 100ish miles later it failed again so I ran the same process but with a pressure bleeder this time and got the same results, fixed for 100ish miles. The original fluid looked bad and I thought I got most of it out, it could've been the wrong fluid. The codes; P25A2, C05B0-00, C2A1B. I can get them to clear but not for long. The C05B0 indicates a leak in the front circuit (which is bone dry) so I'm thinking of doing the bleed process on that front again today and I don't know if that's taboo to just do the front but at this point it seems like it's worth the try anyway. The new master cylinder/module unit is supposed to get here today. But now I'm pretty much convinced this install is over my head. I've called several shops and some mobile guys that I know but this thing is like radio active material, scary wise. I did get 2 local shops say they should be able to do it, one says he has the SPS2 programing capability. And with the battery disconnected is there supposed to be pedal resistance, mine is to the floor, then if I pump it I can get some resistance. I had a panic stop prior to this issue which may have contributed from what I read. And on the first attempt to bleed and hydraulic test the scanner listed things to look for and one was any gaps between the pad and rotors which I did notice on the RF corner and I removed the outer pad (where the gap was) cleaned it and the hardware and didn't see a gap after that but will re-check it. I read that if pushing the caliper pistons back then you're supposed to open the bleeder so as to not push fluid backwards into the abs module or it will damage it. If that's true then that's also a possibility from the previous owner having the brakes changed before I got it. I'm using an XTool ip500 scanner. Any suggestions, questions and comments welcome.

      Next Friday will be my 6 week point from my right knee replacement.  The surgeon says it will be fine if I choose to drive after this checkup.  I know I could drive now but best to do as my surgeon (and my wife) tell me.  Richard compared being 62 to 72.  I remember when I was in my early 60's I was experiencing slow but regular decline in my mobility.  Thanks to good medical support,  i continued to fight the speed and spread of this decline. During my 60's I worked on non-surgical methods and just when I turned 70, my orthopedic surgeon recommended joint replacements.  In a little over a year, I had one shoulder and both knees replaced.  This hasn't been a terribly fun experience, but worth the discomfort as my future mobility health trajectory has reversed.  It is a treat to now be watching my mobility. balance and confidence steadily improve!
