New Member Looking At Purchasing High Mileage 2000 Z-71. Need Advice.

Okay. First, thanks for having such a great place for people to share knowledge/ideas.

 

I am looking at purchasing a 2000 Chevrolet 4x4 Z71 Extended Cab with 195,000 miles on it. It has the 5.3, auto.

 

Fleet truck with some offroad miles. No records.

 

What should I be looking for when inspecting such a high mileage vehicle? I know it hasn't been wrecked. My main concern is the mechanical reliability. It won't be a daily driver.

 

I can purchase it for close to $3500. Straight body with scratches. Interior is clean. All original.

 

Any info would be great. This truck fits my budget and that is the reason it attracts me.

A fleet truck with no records? Oh man, not good! The rest sounds ok for the miles on it, but the no records part scares me.

If anything, a fleet truck should have plenty of records.

Welcome. I have no real advice for you. But I have a 2000 ECSB Z71 with 140,000. I have owned it for 9 months. I have all records and know that the engine has never been torn into and is running strong. Depending on who used this fleet truck they may have beat the shit out of it or kept it up on all maint. Do you know who used it?

Howdy, I sold my 99 with 111k on the clock to mom and dad's neighbor and she was still in great shape inside, out, and under the hood.

I would not do it. That is really high miles and its guaranteed to need work + you have no records or history on the truck. Keep looking.
