hey guys, i have recently discovered my truck is not what they sold me, it looks like a z71 4x4 alberta truck, but i have no z71 parts, and my frame looks like a spotty shitty ontario frame, where is all my vin numbers on my truck? it has a rebuilt title and would like to know how many trucks mine is possibly, and stupid noob question but i heard that pre 99 4l60e wont work with the 5.3's but internals are same but bolt pattern is different, could someone help me out please

i would like to know if the dealership i bought my truck from is crooks cause no one should have to go threw what i had to, i love my truck but after 6 months its literally falling part with only 148k on it and people shouldnt be able to get away with this, my sisters boyfriend has an 06 from same dealer, but his door was rotten on his passenger side, and he bitched and the dealer told him his door was off a 99. Please help me put a stop to dealers like this, i dont mind them rebuilding trucks but do it right or not at all sorry this subject rattles me cause im out 20000$ and it doesnt work

Sorry to say man....but you knew you were buying a rebuild...they always have a tonne of issues no matter how good the shops that fixed them were....and paying 20K for a 2004 truck that has been rebuilt is just way too much....wish you had popped on here 6 months ago before you bought it.

I paid 19K for my truck 3.5 years ago, at the dealership...right beside mine was a Z71, loaded with all options for 26K same year as yours...that was in 2006...same trucks now sell for about 17K with clean titles and low K's ...rebuilt titles should be about 12-14K...max...you over paid man...

Your VIN is located on your dash....and in your glove box on the RPO sticker. Other than that its just serial numbers...and really it doesn't matter if your truck has parts from 2 trucks or 200...all the parts are exactly the same, the beauty of robots. If the frame is straight and you dont have issues with any safety system, there's nothing you can do. The biggest issue with rebuilds is alignment...I have never seen one that could keep its front end alignment for longer than 20K...and they also tend to squeak and creek forever...they chew through tires and some are horrible on brakes.

The trans from a 98 or older truck will not fit, but I am almost certain that a 97 or newer F-body trans will fit, provided you change the output and tail housing to a 4wd one...although I think the tail shaft is a 4-bolt on an F-body and its 6 bolt on a 99 and newer 1500 pickup.

I'm Sorry to hear about your troubles man, but I dont think there is much you can do, other than tell people you know about your experiences and hope no one goes there for a vehicle. You can go public to the media...but be careful with what you say...slander lawsuits can be costly. If you wish to pursue legal recourse, you may want to do some research into what is allowed and acceptable in the way of rebuilds, and build yourself a case if you find that your truck meets some of those shortcomings. If you have rust showing, or a frame that looks bad, or shotty paint....you haven't a leg to stand on there. Cosmetic is not safety.

As for Z71 parts....they included Bilstein Shocks, a skid plate...that most people remove due to it being a PITA to change the oil...a larger front sway bar...40mm as opposed to a 36, and an oil cooler...and since it's an 04...the shocks have probably been replaced. so really, you are not missing much.

Trucks don't last forever without maintenance. 148k km is a good amount of kilometers for a truck especially considering it is a rebuild and it has a lift on it. What actual issues are you having with it? Are pieces actually falling off?

You need to look for the Z71 RPO code in the glovebox. Also, put your VIN in here to see if it was shipped with the Z71 RPO.

Here is a detailed discussion of the 2004 Z71 package conveniently found using the search function.
