scudd Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I have a 97 Yukon 4X4 with 135k on the clock. I've noticed that the steering seems to be way to to loose. When I'm on the highway say around 65 mph the truck will drift to the left or right, when I correct, it corrects to much. Then I have to over correct back in the other direction. Any thoughts on what this could be? I had the speed sensative steering control-the thing thats in the steering column replaced a while ago-,.. this is a completely different symptom. I've also had the ball joints replaced and stabilizer bushings replaced a while ago. Ideas?.... Pitman arm, Idler Arm?

Have the idler arm and pitman arm checked for excessive play in them,could also be a steering gear box issue but these things would be noticed at slower speeds also. If equipped with speed sensative steering,check for a code being set with the system used to do alot of sensors at the base of the steering column,saw a bad module one time which was a pain to change under the dash.See if unplugging the sensor on the power steering pump changes anything.
ken1mod Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I have seen this caused by overinflated tires. Also check toe in. Tow out will definitely cause this. Experiment with tire pressure first. Because it is free. Ken
