Rich, is there anyway to see what dealerships are going to have the option to re-open?

No,I don't even think they (GM) know which ones they are going to offer the "reinstatement" option to,Arbitration was scheduled to begin shortly, and its my understanding that by June 30th all dealers will know if they have the option or not to be reinstated.

My understanding was that some of the dealerships that lost their franchises hadn't even closed yet.... is that true?

It will be fairly tough for dealers that have already closed their doors to reopen; probably at least SOME of their former employees have already found other employment. Plus in at least a couple cases that I know of former GM dealers already have secured franchises with other manufacturers (Kia, Hyundai).

Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Yep,Very true,A lot of dealers didn't close yet waiting for a reprieve,The ones who did close probably don't have a chance in hell of getting reinstated.

Like you said....a lot of the ones around here are already something else, one turned into a Meineke Muffler car care center, another one is an independent body shop.

We have both a Chevy and a GMC dealership in town, and the Chevy Dealership closed, and is just sitting empty, I was just curious what what may happen

If its already closed then I don't think they'll reinstate it,But thats something were all waiting to see.

We also have a Chevy and a seperate GMC Dealership, and the Parts guy at Faulkner Pontiac Buick GMC reassured me that they were NOT going to close! and they are true to their word! and Alexander Chevy won't close because they have franchises in other Middle Tennessee Cities. on the Other hand, Our Chrysler Dealership reassured me that they weren't going to close. By November, the Lot was Empty, and signs were on the doors that said "Out of Business". needless to say, I was NOT Happy.

Trust me....Just because a dealership is saying they are NOT closing doesn't mean they aren't closing,They have until Oct. of this year to stay with GM,At that time if they are not reinstated by GM they lose their GM franchise and must close as a GM dealer.

Well, I hope to see Buicks, GMCs, and Maybe even CADILLACS on Faulkner's Lot! Faulkner Cadillac-Buick-GMC has a Nice Ring to it!

The only Chevy dealership left inside the Houston loop is on the list to be closed, leaving 200,000 people without a Chevy dealer. Wonder if they make the life line list.

I know how you feel, Sterling Marlin Dodge Chrysler Jeep was the ONLY Chrysler Dealership in a 40 mile Radius, and now we have to go to either Clarksville, Nashville, or Columbia for hard to Find Parts.

Is this a smart move? I thought being to big was their problem that led to Chapter 11? Who thought this idea up??

Yes,Its a smart move so thousands of dealer employees like myself don't lose their jobs.

My understanding from a news report on CNBC (?) that the only dealers that stand a chance of reinstatement are those that have been fighting it. If a dealer was not then no chance. The reason given was it was costing GM to much time and money to keep fighting these dealers and they want to settle it to get on with things.

I was also told by a GMC dealership that they weren't going to close. And now, their lot is completely empty.. :dunno:
