Power Sterring Noise...

I have a 2004 Denali suv...ever since about 2 years ago when i put new tires on the truck the power sterring would whine a little at a stop and under 5mph speed...like leaving a parking spot or makeing a sharp turn...i posted before and people say it may just been the new tires, well the tires arent so new anymore and the noise is still happening...so again what could this noise be? you can also feel it in the steering wheel a little bit.

Have you checked the fluid level and condition? Sounds like you've either got a low fluid problem or the fluid has crud in it making it not lubricate the pump as well as it should.

GM has problems with their power steering pumps - more than once I heard these pump whining when a Trailblazer or some other GM SUV goes by at low speed. My truck pump whines a bit once in a while at low speed. It comes and goes. I have not done anything with it because it disappears at higher speeds anyway and sometimes does not do it for weeks. They say that replacing the power steering fluid with synthetic type quiets down these noisy pumps. I may do that just to see if it helps.

 

Your problem may be of different nature - if it is groaning while the wheel is being turned, the pump is usually is low on fluid.

fluid level is good...i was thinking maybe of doing a flush

I had a 2002 Envoy and the power steering pump on it completely froze up when I had a mere 58K miles on it. It was replaced under warranty.

 

Interestingly enough, it never once whined or made any sounds as a warning, and the system had been flushed not long before it seized up. So it's kind of hit or miss with GM power steering pumps.
