Im seriously looking into getting a lift for my 01 Z71,but i have a few questions

1. how much will a four or six inch lift cost?

2. what are the two types of lift kits

3. i want a lift kit that will give my truck the abilty to put bigger tires on, but also a functioning abilty like crossing logs or water fording

4. will i have to adjust the lift kit if drive on the interstate

5. my truck has the Auto 4wd button, will that affect what kind of lift kit i can get it

6. will i have to do any extreme modding/readjusting to accomodate it

7. any of you guys got any pictures of what a four or six inch liftkit looks like on a 01 Z71 extended cab

8. will a lift kit cause any extreme wear and tear on my transmission or any other part?

9. also, whats the deal with shocks, will i need to get some of those

10. and i read somewhere that when you put bigger tires on that you will loose horsepower and will have to regear your transmisson, if i dont regear the transmission, will it mess anything up

sorry,i love trucks and 4wd,but i dont know jack shit about modding them

Thanks!

I can answer a few of these. Just lifted my 02 ext cab

1. how much will a four or six inch lift cost?

Depends on the brand. I reccomend Rancho. I got mine used for 800. Plus labor which is around 800 but i did mine myself

2. what are the two types of lift kits

There is a body lift and a suspension lift.

3. i want a lift kit that will give my truck the abilty to put bigger tires on, but also a functioning abilty like crossing logs or water fording

It depends what lift you go with. I personally like the look of a 4 in which looks good with 33s

4. will i have to adjust the lift kit if drive on the interstate

Nope

5. my truck has the Auto 4wd button, will that affect what kind of lift kit i can get it

It all depends. I have auto 4wd and i didnt have to change my driveshaft.

6. will i have to do any extreme modding/readjusting to accomodate it

Nope. everything is bolt and go except you have to shave some of the fins off of the front diff

7. any of you guys got any pictures of what a four or six inch liftkit looks like on a 01 Z71 extended cab

8. will a lift kit cause any extreme wear and tear on my transmission or any other part?

9. also, whats the deal with shocks, will i need to get some of those

Yes you will need new shocks. I recommend Rancho RS9000

10. and i read somewhere that when you put bigger tires on that you will loose horsepower and will have to regear your transmisson, if i dont regear the transmission, will it mess anything up

If you go to 35s you should regear. I have 33s and i didnt regear and its fine. You will lose some millage but thats about it. Its still fast off the line

I did a rancho 4 in lift. I am running 285/75/16 tires with pro comp series 7089 wheels.

go with a 6" on 35's. if you have 3.73's or higher you will want to re-gear to 4.56's ideally. the Superlift 5-6" FIT kit is a GREAT kit. also you should get a tune to bring back some power. the 2 types of suspension kits are full drop and knuckle kits.

here is my old '05 with the Superlift FIT kit and 35" BFG MTs

I know its a bit late, but you have to shave the "webbing" on the front diff to clear the frame (look at the diff and you'll see what I mean).

Fabtech recommended that you notch the frame, but shaving the webbing on the pumpkin is a better alternative.

    • Great info here thank you. I just joined, we have a 2014 Silverado truck we bought about 4 years ago with less than 5,000 miles on it. It has approximately 24,000 on it now. It appears to have all the standard issues that people are talking about. Occasional charging problems especially using 110 volt, occasional blinking triangle where nothing will turn on when first starting the truck but it will reset itself if you wait 10 to 15 minutes. Noisy coupler between the flywheel and the generator. Our truck is speed limited to 74 mph, is there any way to change that? The latest issue we have been dealing with is when driving long distance on the highway at full speed the generator does not keep the batteries charged. The meter will go into the yellow/red border Zone for charge status and the yellow triangle will illuminate solid but the generator will not keep the battery charged, not sure why the controller doesn't tell the gas engine to increase RPM to increase generator output it usually stays well below 25 kilowatts even though the battery is discharging and I have to slow down the highway to 45 mph and eventually pull over and let the truck idle to charge the battery so I can continue driving at speed. Has anyone had this issue before or have any idea how to diagnosed it? When via Motors was around it they were very helpful at troubleshooting. This becomes much if the Terrain is hilly and you're towing a small trailer
    • I have the GMC accessory (REV) cover installed by dealer. Ordered with the truck.  They did a very good install job, can't find a single issue. Some water gets in around the tailgate but no where else.  You can see daylight around the tailgate but that's not the covers fault.  Installation is means everything. Guys at my dealer were seasoned pros, not inexperienced here today good tomorrow types, like many dealers employ for these jobs.   I don't mind paying for a professional job.
    • Like others have said, they will all leak. Mainly at the corners.   I have owned several and the best has been my current one. Revolver x4
    • About 8 months after an alignment job by the dealer I started experiencing a pretty significant clunk in the front end on hard left hand turns usually parking lot speeds almost at lock.  Occasionally get the same on hard rights too.   Discovered that the lower control arm attachment bolts are TTY and only to be used for a single use. And then I found some evidence of a TSB that indicates you can over torque those fasteners to about 130 foot pounds.   Asked a local shop to investigate and they found 3 out of four bolts loose and retorqued.   I've ordered the MOOG    K100421 lower control arm bolt kit that is completely reusable and not TTY.    Is the 80 ft pounds a realistic number?  Anyone have experience with those bolts?
    • subscribe to alldata.com, that will have gm's brake bleeding procedure.  and what you have to do likely varies, as if you just replaced a caliper and the MC didn't go dry, you most likely can just do a normal bleed on that corner, but if you disconnected lines at the MC or the abs unit, or let the MC run dry while doing work, you'll have to do a more extensive/complicated bleeding procedure.
