Bilstein 5100 Vs. Kyb Monomax

Hi All,

I need new shocks. Bilstein 5100 vs. KYB Monomax. Was leaning towards Bilsteins, but my Local CARQUEST does not carry them. Parts guy said that I would not notice the difference, other than having a little more cash in my wallet one the sale is done.

Would I be disappointed with the KYB? I do not want to regret not going with Bilsteins, even if they are a little extra $.

What is the opinion on both??

Is your truck lifted? The Bilstein 5100 are intended to be installed on trucks with a lift. You can save a ton of money doing standard Bilstein's

No, truck is stock, may add a rear leaf though. What ones you suggest??

So they work well then? I haul with it, live out in the country, still some gravel roads, and will be adding a rear leaf soon, for a little extra capacity.

I have the 5100s on my stock suspension, real happy with them.

I was gonna go with bilstein 5100 but after much consideration I went with Monroe reflex,These shocks are excellent riding and control roll.

Also with these I have found when on bumpy roads it absorbs more of the bump rather than bouncing you off the bump.

Anyway that said it's all up to what kind of ride you like.

I chose KYB and can only report they are much better than my original shocks. I did not step up to the price of the Bilstein's. They may be better but I am happy with the KYB's.

Is yours a Z71? If so, it had Bilsteins on it. Nice to hear you are happy with the Monomax shocks.

My Z71 didn't have Bilsteins as the stockers.

The factory Bilsteins were not the higher-grade 5100 series.

If you can't pony up a little extra for Bilstein 5100, the KYB Monomax will be fine. Both are monotube shocks, which are a huge improvement.
