Believe me i looked and looked and looked and couldn't find a SOLID answer about what type of brakes, meaning rotors and pads that worked the best for the gmt-900 trucks. All i am looking for is what people foudn out to be the best bang for the money?? I also have the drums in the rear but i don't think those need to be replaced. Or should i do everything at once.

Just name the brakes you have, where you got them and the price? ANy info would be appreciated.

Thanks

just replaced the front pads on mine,, wagners I believe,, local shop.. waste of money to replace the rotors, unless the pads are into the metal and have worn grooves in them. I have about 60,000 miles, front discs and drums rear. bout $140 to replace the pads.

you have half what he has....he's got almost 100K km

I have 107K km on my truck, and the brakes have never been replaced...they're starting to shudder a little now when coming to a stop, about the last 20km/h before I completely stop.

Get yourself a set of power-slot rotors and hawk ceramic pads they work great...that's what I am getting when I get around to replacing mine.

Summit ships up here man...I order stuff from them all the time.

As for drums...get the expensive shoes....raybestos shoes are very good...wagner shoes are good also...your drums should be perfect with only 60K on them...

which ones? light duty, standard duty ceramic, or super duty pads?

Try to stay away from ceramic pads IF you're using stock OEM rotors. They'll probably warp. I went with the Raybestos OE Semi-metalic pads and OE rotors and they work great with no warping.

I got the ceramic, I have always had good luck with ceramic pads (no noise and little brake dust) plus I didn't know if the slots in the rotor would cause more brake dust.

I have very little brake dust now. Probably the same as the stock ones, which wasn't alot on my truck either.

I went wish Hawk HPS pads, my next set will probably be Hawk Ceramic and Powerslot rotors, I want to do more research on the cryo treated rotors.

My front rotors would have needed to be turned and the pads all around were shot at 18,000 miles

I went with heavy duty NAPA rotors and pads. Around 400 for everything.

It has been a dramatic difference

Gentlemen,

To the best of my knowledge, ceramic pads are light duty but have advantages as far as dust and quietness goes. The semi-metallic are the heavy duty ones.

A question though, my oem pads seem to work very well great braking with my boat and no real problems. I have heard that slotted rotors tend to crack. Why switch from oem type brake pads. Personally, I use Raybestos.

I just put Hawk SuperDuty pads all around with PowerSlots in back and SSBC over-sized slotted rotors up front. WAY better braking than stock. A tad more noisy and a tad more dust but hitting the brakes can almost put my head into the windshield :shakehead:

Also, I ran several sets of slotted rotors on my 01 Tahoe which I had until 240K. I never had the powerslots wear earlier than oem rotors and they seemed to hold up pretty well. Never had any cracking. I thought the cracking was more from drilled rotors and not so much slotted.
