My guess is that he didn't put the pressure sensors in the wheels that are on the vehicle now, because resetting them is pretty easy. Search on this website or look at your owners manual on how to reset the tire pressure sensors and try it. If nothing you probably don't have them.

Got cha, I will give that a try see if that will work. Thanks. If I don't have sensors in the wheels are they pretty salty?

Tried to reset sensors, no luck guess their are none in the wheels. Which one is the onstar fuse?

if you pull the onstar fuse will it still come on?

I am not sure about that, but you can get the pressure sensors from gmpartsdirect or other like websites for around $30-40 each. Thats about half of what they cost at the dealership.

TPMS has nothing to do with onstar.

to be more specific, OnStar can read the TPMS data, however OnStar has nothing to do with the warning message on the dashboard.

FWIW department: The topic came up at the parts store one day: IF you changed from the original, say 17", wheels on a truck to a larger diameter wheel--would the tire pressure sensors still work? No one at the store knew the answer so I called one of our best customers, a brake/alignment shop to find out. According to them it depends on how much larger you go with the new wheels. IF you go from 17" to 22", then NO the TPS will not work properly. Think about this: The outside diameter of the rim travels at a certain rate known as Surface Feet Per Minute while turning a specific MPH. If you go to larger diameter rim, then the SFM increases at that same MPH. Somehow the TPS units are designed for specific diameter rims and can be confused with larger rims--so says my source. Makes sense to me. I normally like to test out theories, but this one would be too expensive. So, to "hatchie": I would make sure the TPS units you anticipate buying would work for the size rims you have on your truck at this time. David

Yea that makes sense. More than likely for the time being gonna stick with stock 17" so TPS units should work. Thanks David and the rest.

hmmm, well I went from my stock tires with a overall diamter 30.50in to 24s with a overall diameter of 31.85in and the sensors read fine.

TPMS has nothing to do with diameter of the tire or wheel. It is a bluetooth (radio transmit/recieve) system. The pressure sensors simply measure pressure in the tire.

Sensors are common on ebay. You can buy used or new sensors there. I found 4 new sensors for under $100.

your buddy's theory has nothing to do with the TPMS in these trucks. on previous GM vehicles they had a low tire warning system based on wheel speed, if the tire is low on air it's diamter is less therefore that wheel must travel faster to keep pace. However, the trucks are using actual pressure sensors in the tire/ wheel assembly. GM has used this same system for years in Corvettes in conjunction with the "run flat" tires.

Also, calling "bluetooth" would be incorrect. It is a radio type system similar, but it's way different technology.

I got a set of stock 09' sensors and when I switched winter stock 17" for the summer 20" I never got a light and it reads the presure just fine. Stock ones read 37-ish lbs, and the 20s read 40lbs now.
