Have a question to all that have a lifted truck. Getting a 6 in lift and some 35's. Do i buy 5 tires and wheels or just 4. What is everyone else doing. Am I better off buying the cheapist wheel and tire for a spare. Cant mount spare in back of bed. Use my bed way to much. Hoping to see what you all have done with yours.

I`d get the 5th tire now, I put 4- 35`s on my truck then drove around being paranoid of getting flat and being in real mess as the stock tires are just too small to run with 35`s, I finally found a used 35 to use as a spare, haven`t decided where to put it yet, it`s a pain in the bed and I like you use my bed too often, did attempt to mount under truck, I only have 3" body lift and tire was going to be a little close to diff, you may have clearance with 6" suspesion lift, I`d like to hear idea`s from others as well. think about the 5th tire like this, when time to replace tires you only need three and one of your old one`s can be spare. If you do put under truck consider putting a safety chain or cable on wheel because if spare tire cable breaks thats a lot of money lost.

Keep your stock spare tire but if you get a flat in the rear you will have to remove one of the front tires and put on the rear then put the spare smaller tire in the front. Running two differant tires in the rear will make your locker go nuts, if you dont have a rear locker then its no problem.

When I ran 40" tires on my old dodge, I just kept a GOOD plug kit in the truck, and had a good air compressor to refill it, or you can buy several cans of compressed air for filling tires (not computer cleaning :P ).

If I got a flat, I just plugged it and refilled it. took like 15 minutes total on the truck.

On my last truck (Ford F350 SuperDuty) I went without a spare tire for three years. I had towing on my car insurance ($6 a year, Farm Bureau) and if I got a flat it would either get towed home on a medium duty flatbed where I would have plugged it or to a tire store where a new tire would have been put on. Of course I never had a flat so it didn't matter.

I have Hummer H2 wheels and tires on mine (315/70 17's) and was able to stuff it under the bed where the stock spare goes. It is tight, but it fits. Since I got all 5 of them, I do a 5 tire rotation as well.

i just leave mine in the garage, if i get a flat i just have somebody bring it to me...if i'm going a good distance i chuck it in the bed..its a pain but where else is it going to go?

I know state farms has towing coverage for like 5 dollars a year, so I'll have my truck towed home or tire store, ect..

As far as harming the locker,, it ceses to function at 20 mph,,, so yeah, it would not be a good idea to drive a very long distance,, but if the G80 does as it's supposed to,,, once you accelerate,, you will be unlocked..

Different diameter tires on the rear axle will wear out the spider gears inside really fast. Normally the spider gears only allow differentiation during turns, not intended to be used 100% of the time.

If you get a flat, make sure the two rear tires are the same, have a small/large on the front if you use the spare.

Here is my brain cells on this matter.

Running two different diameter tires on a drive axle even for 100 miles can cause damage to the axle (ring gear, pinion, locking carrier [more so this part], etc...). One tire constantly running at a different speed than the other is not a good thing. Yes, that happens in a turn of any radius size. But your constantly keeping the 50/50 ratio altered for extended periods.

Either way. I had a truck with 35's..... I put a spare under the tool box of that truck. But every time I needed the tire it was FLAT... Of course...... Murphy's Law Applies here. Plus if you kill one of the rims on the truck you would have a spare one with out having to by a set from somebody after they discontinue them!!

Jbo

GO CHECK YOUR SPARE TIRE..... Anybody over a year old your tire probably is FLAT!! Or getting near flat (15-0psi)..... Unless they have changed a tire and lowered the jack only to find another flat tire. Yea, I was that guy on the interstate everybody kept flying by with 2 flat tires laying on the ground sitting on the tailgate....... ONCE
