1960 Willys Dj3

Sitting in my garage right now is a 1960 Willys DJ3A. The DJ3 was the predecessor of the DJ5 Postal Jeep and used a CJ3A body with a 2wd drive train. I bought her 6 years ago in Kentucky and after moving back to Virginia let her sit for a few years after the carburetor went bad.

Anyway, the engine turns over but she will not start. I've traced this to the coil but have yet to replace it. The carburetor was rebuilt and I've done a few other things to her but I'm considering selling her to someone who may have the time and money to get her going again. Since the last time I drove her in 2005 I've been telling myself I'm going to get her roadworthy again, but it just isn't happening. Moving the Jeep a third time just doesn't seem appealing.

Long story short, I am strongly considering selling her. I paid $800 back when she ran and put another few hundred into the carburetor, tuneup and other parts. I have a spare F-134 (CJ-3B/CJ-5/DJ-5/etc) motor and a spare transmission along with a few other spare parts. Of course, the F-head will not fit under the hood of this Jeep, but a Jeep enthusiast may have need for a spare. Granted, this is an odd question for a GM forum, but about how much would you say is a fair price to list it for? I am thinking of listing her at $1000 OBO for everything but do not expect to get anywhere close. If you were in my shoes (facing at least three more moves until I retire) would you keep it? Flat fenders aren't exactly rare but the DJ3 is a bit less common than the CJs or the DJ5. My main obstacle to repairing her is time and patience.

If I decide not to sell it, it will go back up on jack stands in the garage until I get back to this area. Even if I do sell it, I hope to get another flat fender and have the time and patience to keep her going.

Assuming this jeep is in fair to good shape sheet metal wise, I would say 1000 bucks is more than fair....I have a friend with a 67 coms jeep (has the hook-ups for external coms trailer and huge coms whips, it also has the 24V electrical system. It's in good working order, but the body is all dinged and painted with a roller and brush, with house paint. He has been offered 3000 bucks, 5000 bucks and maybe more, just sitting at a traffic light.

So get with me on the F-head engine, if it's fairly complete I am looking for one.

It seems to be mostly complete; a fan blade is bent, as is a pulley, from moving that heavy SOB twice. I would have to do a better assessment of it, the valve cover has been removed since I got it and the internals all seem intact but I am unsure whether it ran when it was removed or not. I know it used to be full of oil, most of that is probably gone now. If you are located anywhere near me, let me know (Denham Springs, LA), the cost and hassle of shipping that heavy bastard preclude me even considering anything other than a pick up or drop off. I can take some pictures and give you a better idea of its condition. Right now it just sits in the garage.
