Hi, I just purchased a new 2010 Silverado ext cab LTZ and I opted not to do the factory nav. Couldnt justify the $2200 option.......but i did find a bunch of them on ebay going for about $800 or so..........so i am curious to know what has to be done to swap out my regualr stereo system for the oem navigation units i can buy elsewhere. FYI...its a 2010 Ext Cab, LTZ w/bose and USB under the shoulder rest. Some of the kits i have found come with the gps antenna, vss wire and a nav disk.......is this all i need? I posted this questione in another section as well and the poster mentioned i need to get a part number for the 2009 or newer nav units to avoid installation issues........but i cant seem to fins it.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks !

Part number 25966513 is the 2010 model with USB port and is guaranteed to work. I put one that I bought on e-bay in my 2009. It came with GPS antenna, VSS wire harness, the NAV disk and a special jumper wire harness that goes between the VCIM and NAV. You will need all of these. The process is very simple. Everything plugs right in.

BTW, searching the forum is helpful too. This is a very hot topic.

wow, after reading the last 6 pages of that post, it seems to be more trouble than its worth. Did you ever get it working right?

After a few minor problems with the aftermarket LockPick, it is working flawlessly.

Thanks for the help. I guess I will have to keep my eye out for one. They dont seem to be out there yet. Yea, i noticed in that thread you were having issues with the LockPick........was that the cause of your headaches?

Also, I am not sure what the VCIM is........

and when I get the nav antenna.......where does that get mounted? any tips you could lend would be greatly appreciated with the whole process. I am pretty mechanically inclined.......but less so with electronics. Is it simply plug and play as you just stated? I noticed you said you had to add a couple wires to the on*...............i'm not too sure I would know what to do there.

Yes, all problems related to LockPick. The VCIM is your Voice Control/Bluetooth/Onstar Module. The GPS antenna sits just under the dash. There are plenty of instructions posted online that show it. Aside from some minor wire color changes, the instructions are the same from 2007-2010. Adding the wires to the Onstar harness was the most difficult because I could not figure out how to open the modular plug to add the two additional pins. Other than that, my install was completely plug and play.

just for argument sake, if i did not hook up the on* wires you mentioned, what would that do? Would on* literally be un-connected to the stereo.....meaning I would not have use of the bluetooth as well as the on* features.....or would the on* features just be non-functional?

Thanks for all your help by the way !

I have no idea what happens or does not happen. It is no big deal to hook them up. Just have some patience when working with the plug. I was in a rush and bent a pin so I just used a vampire tap to connect it.

sounds like the option price is worth it and would work perfectly now instead of saving a buck and risking damaging something else and the headache to save that buck IMO

If you don't hook up the VCIM module, all onstar related functions will be dis-abled as well as your voice prompted navigation, any voice activated commands and who knows what else. Also, you would always have a red lite on your mirror showing a fault. I would recommend hooking it up, it's really no big deal and pretty easy.

Here is the ebay how-to that helped me alot. I know its for an 08 and your part numbers may be different, but the basic steps should be the same.

You mean In order to save the rediculous $2200 buck ?........i'll gamble with a "do it yourself install". Worse comes to worse, the origianl stereo goes back in and a nice $200 garmin gets bought, lol
