Not suprising what so ever.

 

They used to have a wonderful product, the name came to be associated with quality, when they found that they could make money off this name even if they let quality slide, they tested the waters to see how far they could let them slide. Guess they went too far this time....

 

Too bad people are too dumb to realize this and will stay loyal, even if it kills them....

 

I mean, I have a buddy with a Corolla, its a base model, no better or more comfortable than a base model Cobalt. Its 200 bones more a month than a equally equipped Cobalt. He bought it thinking that he would at least have some resale value...but he absolutely hates the car, and its horrible in snow...which where he lives he gets lots. The car feels light on the highway, and is quite loud for the quality it claims to have.

As much as we all hate Toyota, this crap is not unique to them. Anyone remember GM saddle gas tank, the Ford Pinot and the Ford Bronco II? There were a few thousand confirmed deaths in those three vehicles before investigations revealed the automakers knew there were problems.

Make excuses all you want. The fact remains this Japanese company does not really care about its customers.

I am not going to be to hard on Toyota for having some issues with quality or design. This type of thing could and has happened to just about every manufacturer out there. What I will be hard on them for is standing by their claim of superiority while being aware of some potentially serious issues. If you are going to shout from the roof tops you are better than everyone else you better have your house in order.

Who's making excuses? It is reprehensible no matter who is doing it, US or Jap companies. Other "news" shows staged accidents on the other vehicles too in order to make their point more dramatic. It does not change the fact that the manufacturers hid information that knew they were unsafe compared to other designs or that more people died in them compared to other designs. BTW, they were all ultimately changed to mimic the other designs. Oh, yeah, the whole time all the manufacturers were claiming to be tops or best in some category or another. What else do you expect them to do? Cower and try to sell their products without any advertising?

 

Sure it would be nice if every one or every corporation was completely honest, no matter the cost but the real world does not work that way. Greed and corruption exisits at every level and the need to generate ever increasing profits fuels it even more.

Our family had 4 C/K trucks from '74 to '95 w/o any explosions. Did the Dateline "expose" happen after the GMT400 was introduced? Funny how the media never picked up on these "rolling explosions" while the trucks were being built & sold to the public.
