Heater/ac Problem

I have a 2007 Silverado 4.8 engine. I am having an air problem. It works on both the cold, A/C or heat function. I turn the selector to feet, face, or any other selection and it always just comes out the defrost vents on the dash. The air starts on whatever I've selected, but about 30 sec later it's back on the dash vents. I can switch the power from low to high and it works, so I don't think it's the blower motor itself. It seems like it might have a door or gate or something like that, that closes and makes everything go up to defrost dash vents. My local dealership here says they will charge me $200 to diagnose the problem only. Then whatever needs repaired it could be an additional $900. Have you ever heard of this problem? Do you have an idea of maybe what it could be? Is it something I might be able to fix myself if I bought the parts?

Thank you...Mike D

It only has 60K miles. It has the 100K mile warranty, but that's just on the drivetrain apparently. One place told me it could be the mode door actuator. But he told me there are 4 of them. All but 1 is easy to get too apparently. If I can know where they are maybe I can try to diagnose the problem myself. I've already taken my dash off to install my DVD system so it shouldn't be too hard. I'm hoping.........
