Rear Camera Problems

Recommended Posts

Has anyone out there purchased the OEM-like rear vision system (rear mirror monitor & tailgate bezel camera) made by Brandmotion and sold on sites like JCWhitney, CarParts & Amazon?????

If yes, what year is your truck?????

I had mine installed today on my 2007 GMT-900 Sierra and the thing doesn't work! I triple checked all conections and they are correct per included instructions. When I put it in reverse, the monitor flashes on then off in less than a second and then the green light next to Onstar buttons flashes. Any ideas...?

I'm currently waiting to hear back from both the seller and manufacturer. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like a power issue.... or a lack of constant power when in reverse. Did the installers tap the reverse light wire on the tail light?

Any chance you can attach the included instructions so some of us can check them out and maybe offer some suggestions?

No, this kit comes prewired with it's own factory-like harness. You simply plug 4 wires into 2 different factory terminals and you're supposed to be good to go...

Here's a pic of the kit (taken by someone else)

Any chance that the individual wires it had you put into connectors (at least this is what I think it was asking you to do in the install instructions) are loose, or do any of them not match up with pins when you plug the connector back in? Maybe the install instructions are off or have something numbered incorrectly? Other than that, I don't have a clue. Maybe you could check to see if you are getting power at the rear of the truck when everything is plugged in?

(sorry about the poor pic quality.. i was in a hurry)

Finally talked to the manufacturer Brandmotion and got things straightened out! Turns out there can be an error in the instructions depending on which model you buy and which truck year you have. Allow me to sort things out:

If you have a 2009+ GMT-900 & you order the kit without the temp/compass built in mirror...

Follow exact instructions for 2009+ and you'll have no problems!

If you have a 07-08 GMT-900 & you order the kit with the temp/compass built in mirror...

Follow exact instructions for 07-08 and you'll have no problems!

If you have a 07-08 GMT-900 & you order the kit without the temp/compass built in mirror...

DO NOT follow the 07-08 instructions! Instead use the 2009+ instructions!

Basically instead of plugging the two camera wires into Slots 1 & 2 behind mirror, you have to remove existing factory wires from Slots 6 & 7 and place the two camera wires into Slots 6 & 7 (see page 7, Steps 55-56 of Instructions). It's a very easy fix once you know it!

Now that everything is up and running, have to say I'm happy with my purchase. Hopefully any of you out there thinking of buying this OEM-like product will find this thread so you can avoid the headaches I had. Thanks to everyone who offered advice.

**Moderators- please now move this thread to the Audio/Video/Electronics Forum. A'prec..

PS- Realizing now my big mistake was not ordering the Mirror with built-in compass/temp! If you're looking for this OEM-like kit made by Brandmotion, I recommend you check out Autostrata's page on ebay. They have the correct kits at lowest prices!
