2003 1500 HD, 145,000 miles. Just fell victim to the dreaded pump rub. Caught it way early! Have parts on order for the fix, but have a couple of questions. Does the torsion bar cross member have to be removed? Just looks like it is the way, and no other option. Any other parts that should be replaced while I am in there? Any help is appreciated.

no leave that thing alone,,remove both shafts, remove 1 transmission crossmember bolt from each side, remove 1 mount nut from trans mount, loosen other one untill almost off,(that all done to working around the tranny support easier),next support tranny off the crossmember ,remove remaining xmember bolts, xmember will not fall to the ground, hold up xmember and remove loose mount nut ,remove wiring/vent ,remove all nuts that fasten t case, pull tcase straight back and rest on torsion bar xmember ,twist t case side ways and lower down between tranny and torsion xmember.

-remove rubber plug on rear of t case ,

-remove speed sensors

-remove all case bolts

-release snap ring in hole from plug

-shaft will drop when it releases

-remove rear case half

I had a welding outfitt repair the hole when i was at the dealer, all you need is to buy the anti rub clip, however the rear bearing didn't fit and I had to sand inside the rear half where the bearing slids into ,and then together it goes, case halves are expensive ,you'll need a new rear seal if you replace the half

Thanks. Did you mean the bearing did not fit on a new rear case half? I am gettign a new case half and the riverside gear plate. Sure looks tight in there but will give it a go without the torsion x member removal.

disregard what i said about the bearing,I was talking about after a welding repair,

you do not have the special c clamp to remove the torsion bar key anyways ,

as you pull the t case rearward rest the rear of t case on the torsion xmember ,the drives side of the t case will want to drop down, let it ,the grab the case and twist 90 deg and lower ,

dont forget the new rear seal
