Tuning 07 Up 6.0 Hd's

Has any one here had there tuned ? Just wondering what results you are seeing.(mpg, power, and shifting)

None of the handhelds can communicate with the TCM - so you're not going to see any shift differences.

You will notice a slight improvement with the engine tune (I have a Bully dog), but if you try to use 87 octane it will ping.

I only use the programmer to remove the speed limiter - it's not worth paying extra for 93 octane.

I recently purchased the superchips flashpaq handheld. I did have some problems with it initially but

the people at Superchips were very good to work with.

I am very happy with what it does---it does say it communicates with the ecm and transmission when

I do the tunes and yes it does change how it shifts. I would recommend the Superchips handheld.

I have a 07 6.0 in the half ton!

BlackBear custom tune...the only way to go, night and day difference in driveability.

I got 1.5 mpg back too, after losing over 2 with the wheels/tires/front lift.

I havent tuned the trans yet, I am waiting for the EFILive AutoCal to come out.

On my '07 1500 I gained 1.5 over stock, plus all the wonderful benefits of the tune.

I have the Predator for my 09 6.0l 1/2 ton and so far am happy. Turned off the afm and am using the 93 tune. DIC says I'm getting 1.8 mpgs more but has only been 750 miles so not sure how accurate that is yet. It feels like the acceleration is better and has helped the driveability. The real test is when I start towing the camper next month.

NIGHT AND DAY between Diablo and BB tune. Not even in the same league. The 6.0 rocks with the BB tune. FYI, I just switched from diablo to BB and the custom tune with the TCM tuned is a HUGE difference over Diablo. I've always been a fan of Diablo and if you MUST have a handheld, it makes a difference, just not in the same league. :dunno:

Good luck with your choice.

I heard BB is the way to go but I want the choice to change tunes if need be and right now can't afford buying the extra modules. Eventually I will be getting ahold of Lew to get a custon tune through the Predator. As for the TCM, I wouldn't touch that anyway as I pull a 8000lb camper during the summer and wouldn't want to risk tranny damage.

Stevens07 had a custom tune from Diablo also.

As far as TCM and TM goes. I tow also, so Justin left all of the TM in tow/haul mode and removed it from regular drive mode.

How does your truck pull your camper ? I had A 1/2 ton before I got the HD.I have A camper about the same weight loaded.

I had regular mode tuned, and left the tow/haul settings alone so all protection is still inplace while towing.

It pulls just fine. I keep the speed at 60-65 and the 6.0 has plenty of power to pull it. With the right hitch setup it makes it fairly easy. Gas mileage really suffers with a headwind though.

Did you get yours tuned for 93 or 89 octane?

is there any way tune the trany in normal mode but not in tow haul mode with the diablew tune? or is that just with the blackbear tune

for your 2006 truck, yes... I can tune the tranny settings as well...

for Wurg's 2009 truck - no... there's no tcm/tranny support...

Stevens07 - we should have revisited your custom tune man, yours was done a looooonng time ago - many new tricks/tweaks since then, new tuning templates updated for new, additional parameters to tweak, etc etc...

but, either way, there still wouldn't be tcm/tranny support for your 07 truck... heh...

    • Did you ever get this worked out? Mike is doing the two start thing now too. This is after a new camera back in December.
    • I’m doing an experiment on a vehicle I don’t have much money in. I’m going by the premise that after they last 100K miles they were no mechanical problems with assembly. Or defects with the parts. With oil changes by the minder for the first 127K miles when I acquired it. I quickly went through low mileage oil changes then settled on 5k oil changes with close to 170K miles on the vehicle currently. I did have the option to turn off the cylinder deactivation. I didn’t on this vehicle because in ECONOMY mode at least half the time. It should be a no brainer frequent oil changes are the key. The manufacturer gets away with the long oil changes with its severe service  maintenance. Just ask them what is normal.
    • Even set to "recirculated", the air pushes out and is hot. I have noticed that sometime it doesn't want to switch between recirculated/vented air. Say it is set to Circulated Air and I want to switch to Vented, when I click the Vented button, it just quickly lights up/clicks and immediatly switches back to Circulated. It's done this a few times now. So maybe it is an actuator getting stuck? But then, that doesn't explain the hot air when everything is off does it?
    • I wonder what the price is out at the coast, Big Sur or other out of the way locations as I bet they are charging quite a premium over the in land pumps.
    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
