Leather Seat

I've got a 2000 Sierra SLT. Bought her new 10 years ago. She has 155K on her. The leather seat portion only is cracking pretty bad. I recently bought OEM GM leather seat portion to replace the old leather. Three years ago I had an upholstry shop take the seat cover off to put new vinyl on the left side of the seat where the vinyl had cracked. When they replaced the vinyl they also upgraded the padding underneath.

My question -

Should I have an upholstry shop replace the seat leather for me or is it a fairly simple job that I can do myself.

Opinions are much appreciated.

If you're comfortable with the idea of using hog rings and hog ring pliers, you can probably do it yourself.... personally I'd have an upholstery shop do it though, and I tend to do 99% of the work on my vehicles myself.

Thanks guys. I'll take her into the upholstery shop and them do the job. This will be the third time my truck has ever been to the shop for anything.

There are no hog rings used in these seats. The job is relatively easy to do yourself. Take your time removing the old cover and put the new one on the same way. Everything fastens with plastic loops and fasteners - very easy for a do-it yourselfer.

Huh? I was under the impression that the rear portion of the seat did have hog rings....

Yup, no rings... plastic piece that catch the rods the seat frame is made of.... I have put numerous seat covers on with and without hog rings... If the foam portion is still available GET IT TOOOO..... The seat is 10 year old the foam is toast....

If you don't feel comfortable doing it then DO NOT DO IT...... But it is not that bad to do... One seat bottom will take around 45 minutes... But the back where the seat belt is in it.... As your front seats are.... THEY will take you some TIME... But their is a bolt and the seat belt will come loose and allow the cover to be removed and installed..... First one I did took me a while I didn't have a service manual..... It was 1999 tooo....
