Windshield Tint

I want to get a strip of tint on the top of windshield. I am think about like a 6 or 7 inch strip with 10% or 15% tint. What do you guys have and how you like it? I don't want it to dark that I cant see the stoplights. Thanks for your help. Any pictures too.

never seen/noticed anyone do this with tinting..

 

i have seen the mexitrucks do it with a decal to colormatch to change the body/dash lines on their dropped trucks.. although i dont think it's to shade from the sun.

 

i dont know how you could get a good line on it without a pro installing/cutting it and i dont think it is legal to tint your windshield in tx.. even just the top of it.

Depending on your local laws, it can be illegal. Here in Texas I believe the limit is 20% and 4 inches max from the top of the windshield. It varies but it would suck to do it and then get pulled for it. Might want to find out.

I have it. 6" at i think 15%. Check my picture below. It is the best picture I have.

 

It helps alot with the sun and I haven't had any visibility issues with it.

I have a 7.5" strip at 5%, I can't live without a strip anymore, it's great for driving into the sunset, I don't find it too dark, I do occasionally have to lean up at stop lights, but that's only at some when I pull up a little too far.

CAUTION - if you have the dots all along the edge of windshield, this can happen:

 

And once film dries, you're kind of screwed... Talk to your tint guy about this before install!

You should have a line (really it is just a mark on each side) at the top of the windshield.... Most states that is the LIMIT as to how wide a band you can have... If you have a blue tint at the top the usually will not tint the top....

 

I had the band at the top my my windshield (2.5%), 2.5% on the front 2 windows and 2.5% over the factory on the back 3 windows..... I could put my sun screen up in the front ahhhhhhhhh,....... I could sleep in the middle of the day in that truck.... Then my state put 25% law in......... Pricks.... cops can have it as dark as they want..... really pisses me off...... Kinda makes me want to walk around with my glass break hammer and break the windows out of there vehicles......... But I wouldn't do that!!!! I WOULD NOT DO THAT!!!! but it makes me want toooooo. But I will honk at them when they are asleep in their car on duty now... hehehehehehe

I have 5% on mine, they did it from the lines on both sides up, something like 5 inches or so. The strip is about the same length as the visor if the visor is pushed to the window. With the 5% I can still see stop lights during the day and at night with no problem and it helps with the glare from the setting sun.

Best bet is to check your local laws. Here where I live in VA they say one thing, yet hassle you for it. So I didn't even tint mine. They say the little mark on the sides of the windshield is as low as you can go, yet then they say if its tinted from the factory ( a blue i think) then you are NOT allowed to tint it even to that line. Welcome to the commonwealth.. were the common stay common.. LOL

I ended up getting a 5% strip that goes about to the bottom of the mirror. I love the tint once I got use of it. Thanks for you help.
