Transmission Additive?

Recommended Posts

I while back i posted an add about an oil additive that actually did what it says, its a 2500 work van with 187,000 miles, i came to the conclusion to just stick with a good full synthetic.

So is it the same with the tranny, i keep up with the filter and fluid and now have it completely switched to dex6 full synthetic, and seems to shift ok. just curious if there was something out there that maybe helped with heat or breakdown..

Switching to Dexron VI was a good move and all you need. No additives needed in the transmission.

thanks nick, i kinda figured that but it doesnt hurt to ask, i just thought there was maybe something that helped with the seals or other non mechanical parts. it does seem like it shifts twice or like steps down onther gear or something on the highway going from 3rd to 4th/overdrive??

No problem. Is this your truck and have you done regular fluid changes to the transmission or is this the first time the transmission fluid has been changed? Just curious.

im the third owner, got it with 179,000 now at 187... and i went through everything even down to the brake and pwr steering fluid, the first owner took care of it i guess. at 183... i dropped the pan and did the filter and dex6 and just hoped for the best and then at 187... just did the fluid again to try to get more of the old out. id didnt llok real bad or smeel burnt

well is should have a transmission cooler outfront. Assuming it does its WAY to small. 4L80's hate heat. Assuming it has an cooler in front of the rad. Get rid of it and get a bigger cooler. Your transmission will thank you as will your wallet.

Thank you, so besides mounting it, the fiittings or fittment is the same

Sounds like the vehicle has been taken care of. Adding a good capacity cooler always helps.

What are the chances its abad gasket and not a rear main seal

Can someone tell me how to check to see if a small tranny fluid leak is the gasket or a rear main seal??
