Synthetic Oil Change Intervals

Some ppl still do the 3,000 miles and others use the OLMS (which is what I go by) .

Others go up to 5,000 miles....its all up to you but one thing to consider is a good oil filter that is a must...but it is all up to you

I run Mobil1 10w30 high milage in the summer (240,000 miles and still roaring!) with a mobil filter at 6000 miles per change. Sure the oil and filter are expensive, but at 6000 vs. 3000 it is about the same price as dino oil and a mediocre filter, plus you're using a higher quality product.

Just be aware if you go longer than the recommended interval (usually 6000-7500 miles, I believe for the extended interval) GM will NOT honor any warranties.

7500 miles on synthetic is perfectly fine. Some people even run longer. I run Amsoil and change every 5000 miles which is probably overkill... but that is only about once a year for me.

everyone has their own theories and opinions on this subject....

me? i run Amsoil and change it every 5k miles, along with a tire rotation and anything else i think it needs... i drive my truck 12-13k per year. (fwiw my OLM is under 30% at that point)

if i was one of those guys driving 20k/year then id probably stretch it to every 7500 miles....

I agree. 7500 would be my limit though.

Hell You can run regular dyno for 5000 miles before the oil change light comes on.

LOL!

this coming from the guy who blew up his lawn mower because of changing the oil......

hahaha sorry man, couldnt help myself =)

7500 miles is a good figure to go by if you are running synthetic.

If you are interested in extending even farther then you can have your oil analyzed at the 7500 mile point to see what condition it is in. You might be able to go farther if you want. I change mine once a year and my miles are usually at 12k. The oil analysis shows that I can go that far with no issues..

The place I use is Dyson Analysis Terry is a really cool guy and sends his reports back via an E-mail pdf file along with an mp3 file of him explaining it in detail. Then if you have any questions you can e-mail him back. He is prior Navy.

Just switched from using Mobil-1 for years to running Penzoil oils now.

I did a bunch of reading at www.bobistheoilguy.com and it seems Mobil's quality has suffered lately and is not the oil it claims to be, especially what they charge for it.

Don't shoot the messanger, just passing on what I read and continue to read quite often over there.
