Mpg With 6.0 And 6 Spd

I have a 2006 1500HD with the 6.0 and 4 spd. Love the power and ability, hate the 11-12MPG. I was thinking of going for a new 1500 crew cab with 5.3 and 6 spd.

Every so often the 6.0 3/4 comes in handy. This morning I picked up approx 2000lbs of concrete bags which a 1/2 ton couldn't do. I also tow a 7k dual axle trailer easily with my current rig and wonder about the 1/2 ton's ability.

How is the MPG on the new HDs with the 6 spd? I won't go for diesel. I currently average 11-12 around town and on road trips, I go up to 14-15MPG

I have a 09 1/2 ton GMC All Terrain with the 6.0l, 6 speed and heavy duty towing package and get about 16 mpg average according to DIC. I tow a 7500lb camper ( the gas mileage drops then to 7-9) and have hauled a load of landscape rock of about 1500lbs with ease. Its got plenty of power to handle the things you are mentioning.

Yes, it could. That's what utility trailers are for.

I've put more than that in the bed of a 1/2 ton many times. :flag:

I have an 09 2500HD GMC with the 6.0 and 6 speed. It is a great truck. I get 17 mpg empty on the highway at 70 mph. My local driving gets me about 15 mpg... but I live out in the sticks. I rarely drive in an urban location other than on an interstate passing through a city. I don't know what city gas miles would be.

According to the tuck computer, I get 18.7 average with my 2500 . ..

15 around town and 18 on the highway would be a great improvement. However, I was looking at the 5.3/3.73 with 6 spd in hopes of 17/18 around town and 20 highway. Getting a 1/2 ton AND a utility trailer is definitely and option. It would roughly be about the same price as a HD and I would have a softer ride. Good point, thanks.

I guess I wasn't thinking about a trailer since I already have a 20' enclosed trailer.

I have the same truck, bone stock and I am lucky to get 14.5 on the highway and 13 in the city.......do you have any mods????? I also have a 35ft fith wheel that I was gettin 11 when pulling it las year and can only get 7.5 this year. My dealer told me that between 7 and 14 is normal for that truck. My 05 Hd 6.0 with the 4spd had a hard time getting 12 on the highway.

Anyone have ideas on packages (exhaust, intake, programmers) that work great together? I was looking at the Banks Power Pack System http://bankspower.com/products/show/343/10 but I think I want something I can tune on the fly like an Edge.

Yea this is more like it, I call BS on the 17-18 mpg average. This is just not happening with 364 V8 cid and 6000+ lbs truck.

On a duramax...maybe but not a 6.0 truck.

I went from a 2006 2500HD Duramax to a 2010 1500 4WD LTZ CC/SB Z-71.

Frankly, the 5.3 liter engine with the 3.42 linked to the new 6-speed tranny is truly amazing. I get an honest, hand-calculated 15 mpg in city driving and 21 mpg in freeway/highway driving. Goodness only knows how well this wonderful truck will do when she's fully broken-in.

In odd jobs around the neighborhood, I've had 1,500 lbs in the bed several times; if I need more capacity, I have a 5'X9' utility trailer that handles the job wonderfully.

Personally, I'd never go back to the heavier truck. The half-ton does everything I need and more, plus it is agile and gets superb fuel mileage. The new 6-speed transmission has really awakened the time-tested 5.3 liter engine. Frankly, this combination feels like it has more power and speed than my old Duramax ... I know it doesn't, but it surely feels like it.

Good luck in your choice.

'07 2500HD 6.0 6 SPD and the display generally shows 10-11 around town and 16-18 on the highway. It would be nice if I were actually getting that on the highway.

In my truck, I have always gotten 12-14 city and 14-16+hwy. The 16+ is hwy doing about 68-70mph. I also have a tune from Charlie Wheatley.

My truck has a 3.73 rear end. It is an extended cab with no modifications. As far as the poster who called 17mpg BS, I have seen many similiar trucks reported with the same mpg. You can believe it or not. I don't hot rod, but I don't drive like an escapee from the old folks home either. I actually ran 18 mpg, running unloaded, on a 500 mile trip across the south over the winter.
