'90 K1500 Cv 1/2-shaft Replacement?

I am having difficulty removing the unit. I have pressed the splines out but can't drive it back far enough to clear the hub and remove.

 

And for installation, how do I drive the splines back in?

I haven't looked at our trucks, but typically with vehicles with CV front axles you have to disconnect the lower ball joint, disconnect the tie rod, and swing the whole hub assembly out of the way to get the splined axle end off of the hub.

You should be able to just remove the 6 bolts from the shaft to the diff and manipulate it around and slide it on out. I have replaced them in the woods before without taking the tire off. You just gotta find that sweet angle and itll pop right out. And make sure you compress the outter joint at the same time. Goodluck!
