This may be a really stupid question, but i just bought a 2000 k1500 Silverado and was wondering how to tell if has the z71 suspension. The sticker on the bed just says 4x4. Is there anyway to find out? thanks in advance.

Look in the glove compartment. You will find a sticker there that has about a zillion three letter/number entries.

If one of the three letter thingies (RPO Codes) says "Z71" you got it.

Maybe someone removed the decal.

Basically, Z-71 buys you special shock absorbers, jounce bumpers, off-road suspension, a rear locking differential, skidplates and a decal. Today, Z-71s do can also be two-wheel drive, which is supid to the MAX.

G80 locking diff was not a part of the Z71 till 2004.

G80 is a part of my 2001 Z-71..

You may have a G80 BUT it was not a part of the Z71 option according to MS3DALE who ought to know being a 20 year GM parts manager......

And starting in 2004 it was not listed in the Z71 package but was a part of the PDL off road package required with the Z71 option.

About the only thing that counts is the COOL Z-71 decal. :rollin:

I was hunting mule deer out of Brusett, Montana a few years ago and saw a FERD that was desperately stuck off the gumbo road. Not only was the FERD stuck beyond all redemption, but it sported a big ol' Z-71 decal on each rear fender.

Now that was funny.

most Likely if you have 4x4 stickers...the Z71 was not put on it or they woulda tagged it with it.

yeah, although my truck is a z71 even though it didnt have the bed decals on it when i bought it.

No G80 on my 98!

Mine didn't come stock either. I swapped one in  .

However, now I wish I would have searched for a 14-bolt :rollin: .

it wasnt a g80 on my 98 that i still own, but it is a locking diff(cant give you the code because i am abroad at the moment).... then i busted it and put a Yukon Gear and limited slip in her.... Way better than GM's wanna be limited slip

Who has the best locking aftermarket diff. for a decent price (whenever my G80 blows, I want to know what to look for)?

I really like the Yukon i bought... but if i had to do it all over again... Detroit TRU TRAC!!!

"Z71" means nothing these days... oh wait it can be 2wd, and have some special interior and some guages with z71 wrote in the bottom.... thats about it... you cant even get the max towing package with the new z71's.... GM has really tarnished what that meant from the early 90's until 2006....
