Coolant Temp Sensor

Anybody know where the coolant temp sensor is located on the 4.3L V6? I got a code P0128 and want to pull the sensor...

Actually, what is the normal operating temp supposed to be? Normal = no heavy loads/towing. My gauge reads from 160-260, with it usually hitting around 185 to 190.

It should be near the thermostat housing.

Once you've driven it a bit your temps should be around 195 - 200 or so, if you have the OEM 195 temp. thermostat installed. 260 is high for the conditions you describe.

Edit: I misunderstood your reference to 260 degrees. You're describing the gauge display range.

Well, about 95% of my driving is short trips. Would that be a reason my temp is slightly lower? And really, is there anything I can do about it?

Nothing you can do if you don't drive far enough to get it up to operating temp. of 195. How far are you driving and what are the ambient air temps? If you have a thermostat stick open it will take a lot longer to get up to temp.

Usually I drive about 7 or 8 miles to town/work and back, that's it. And this year, it has been record setting cool temps here in the NW. Have not gotten above 75 degrees yet at all this year. Yesterday's high was 59.
