How Much Splicing?

I just bought a 2010 Silverado LT extended cab 2wd. It has the single CD radio with XM. It did not come from the factory with steering-wheel audio controls or Bluetooth. But I plan to swap the steering wheel for one with audio controls.

 

I'd like to have integrated Bluetooth and nav and I'm not a big fan of aftermarket stereos but it seems going aftermarket might be the most cost effective way to add these features. From what I've read, it seems there is no guarantee Bluetooth will work when retrofitting the factory components.

 

My question is, how plug-and-play are today's aftermarket units? I really can't stomach the notion of tearing into the harness of a brand new truck and with a bunch of splices. Do they make harness adapters which make installation 100% splice free?

 

Also, any suggestions for a Nav/Bluetooth unit that looks as close as possible to a factory installtion?

I went OEM for adding BT to my 09 silverado but since you are looking to go aftermarket, you may want to check this out:

I am looking to add BT to my 04 G35 Coupe which does not have a factory option. The Quick Connects make it really easy to integrate any of the Parrot BT systems which are highly regarded. They claim there are no wires to cut which is nice.

 

If you are planning to go with a full on NAV head unit then chances are BT will be built in already so there is only one device to hook up. There are plenty of harness companies out there the specialize in HU adapter plugs so you shouldnt have to do much splicing.

Thanks Ernie...I bought the factory VCIM (not yet installed) and decided to just use a standalone GPS for NAV.
