Found A 1995 Z71 4x4 For $1500.00

I have been thinking I need a 4X4 crew cab to replace my 1990 Ext Cab Silverado because I hint in places that require 4 wheel drive. I have found a 1995 Z71 Ext. Cab with a 5.7 V8 and 148,000 miles. The A/C doesn’t blow and the transmission slips when in high gear.

I think I can fix the transmission with adjusting something and the A/C just may need to be charged. The truck has been sitting for at least a year and the tires have some flat spots that make the ride a bit rough. The interior is dirty but complete and it appears it will clean up.

Are there any other potential issues I should look for?

Also, is this a good deal? I think I could turn it quickly if I wanted because I can’t find another that is lower than $3,500.00.

What do you think?

Problem spots on my 95 when I bought it at 160K miles.

Upper ball joints. On set #3 now

idle and pitman arm shot.

Inner and outer tierod ends bad.

Tore up cv half shaft.

Front left hub roasted

the usual tune up stuff and then some.

I put way too much money into my truck to keep it alive, but now it's like new. If I could do it again, I would hold out for a vortec. I'm almost $6K into parts and other junk for my rig.

For $1500 on a 15 year old truck there will be issues.... a lot most likely.

Thanks Squirrely,

That is what I was waning to know. I also found out that the engine has 448,000 instead of the 148,000 I originally thought it had.

Another friend of mine who owns and runs a auto repair shop said for what it would cost to get this truck up to reliable condition he could find me a better truck that has ext. cab doors on it. If I am not in a hurry he'll find one for me.

So, I am done with this truck.

Thanks,

Mike

yeh, at a minimun you are looking at a grand for the tranny, you could probably find a used one on ebay, maybe even a 5.3/4L60 combo but you will be in it for another 2k, the front end is probably going to run 400 in parts if you do it all. If its in really good shape it might be worth that but like you said every other one you find is 2 k more...which is where you'd be with this one but then youd know what was new. i guess it depends on what you are using it for, might want to get into the 96 and up for the vortec. I like my 94 suburban for easy to work on, it just lacks in the power department but at least i know that the tranny is sound, the engine has 60K on it (new crate) and i did the entire front end myself so for something to beat around in the woods, its prefect for me.

uh6tdrvr,

I pretty much pass on getting it. I found that it really had 448,000 miles and the trans needs replacing. I have a friend that own and operates a repair shop and he said if I can be patient he will find me a 4x4 extended cab in a 2000 year for about $3-6 in good condition. So now he is looking and I am still appreciating my 1990 Silverado extended cab with 250,000 miles on it and no monthly payments.

Will let you know what he comes up with when I get it.
