Can I change the COLOR (bulb)

Hey all,

Put an Escalade gauge cluster in my Tahoe.  Looks great -- but I'm also swapping out the radio, and am hoping to get a better semblence of colors in there.

Currently, the digital odometer "GM blue/green" color is just too bright and doesn't seem to go with much anymore.  I'm wondering if I can change THAT color to something else -- like, to the orange glow created by the Escalade cluster.

OR, can I change the orange glow of the Escalade cluster to some other color?  (Maybe I could have THEM glow that blue/green color -- if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right?)

If I CAN do this, can someone tell me how to get at the bulbs? I got a couple layers of my cluster apart, but I wasn't sure how to get inside the layers where the bulbs might be...

Thanks!

I don't know for sure, but I bet you cannot change the color of your gear shift selector/odometer.  You most likely can change the bulbs for your cluster backlights though.  I think I remember someone in here had done that...  (Could it be LarryE?)

I thought I remembered some discussion on changing background lighting of the cluster, too... Thanks for the reply.

Can anyone else help?

I was unaware the cluster light came in orange. I have the Escalade cluster and it came with green lighting to match GM

Boomer -- If you're referring to something I wrote, I'm sure I didn't make myself clear.  By orange glow I mean the orange that glows around the BEZELS at night (though the NUMBERS light up a white/green color, and the ODOMETER glows a green/blue color)...

I'm quite sure the Escalade clusters aren't different from one another, also.

Here is the link to the cluster lighting swap.  I don't think you can switc the gear selector color though.cluster lighting swap

Thanks, SilvMan!   That's pretty much what I was wondering about!

(Looks like you still can't change the odometer teal/blue though, huh?)

The odometer and the gear selecter is actually a little screen, so you'd have to find a place to order a new screen to change the color... If you find a place that would be cool, but I doubt they exist

The PRNDL display is a VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display).  It's blue/green due to a plastic filter on it (it's native color is a bright greenish blue - the filter makes it bluer).  You could probably remove the blue filter and make the display orange by using a red filter.

Thanks, folks!

Ok, one last question (and I'm going to start a new thread about it to see if anyone else not following this thread can chime in):  Where does the ORANGE glow (that is cast on the aluminum bezels) on an ESCALADE cluster come from?  Is it from the bulbs that light the NEEDLES (is that light from the needles just cast outward and reflected off of the bezels?), or is there another orange bulb elsewhere that reflects onto the bezels?

I'd like to change this orange glow to the same white-ish color of the numbers themselves on the Escalade cluster.  I'm wondering if this will mean changing the color of the needles to white as well.

Thanks for all of the help!
