Shock Extentions With Leveling Kit

Recommended Posts

Posted

I put a leveling kit on my 2005 GMC Sierra crew cab last week. I have not added the shock extentions yet. Could I get some suggestions if I should or should not add the extentions? I brought the front end up a little over an inch and a half.

Thanks

If you just added keys, you are fine. I put 80,000 on with the bars turned up and it worked great!

Shock extensions = bad idea for cranked torsion bars.

Hit a big bump and you'll blow out the shocks.

Most aftermarket shocks will provide more than enough travel for the OEM suspension. Look at the Bilstein 5100s if you want to make sure 100% that the shocks are not limiting down travel... they have front shocks that have a slightly longer stroke for your truck.

I actually just recently put some Mountain Ryder XT's from Les Schwab on my truck. Any ideas if I am ok with these?

Thanks,

I've never dealt with those shocks directly.

Jack the front end of your truck off the ground so that both front tires are in the air and see if your upper control arms come close to the metal droop stops. If there's a lot of clearance, disconnect the bottom of the shocks to see if the suspension drops down further.
