My New Silverado Needs Help

I have a 2010 ex cab 5.3 z71 and I am VERY unhappy with the performance I CAN'T EVEN BURN THE TIRES EVEN IF I STAND ON THE BRAKES AND THE GAS. I know it's not made for burnouts but I towed a boat last weekend and it was terrible 65 up mild hills STANDING on it and it wouldn't gain speed. I was on it the whole time I felt like I was driving a six cylinder. I just hit 13000 miles so it's broken in. I thought it was sluggish new a couple months ago and everyone said wait till it's broke in but now it is and still. Would it help to put higher octane gas in it ???? Anyone know who makes performance stuff for the 2010 xfe model yet. All I have found is banks exhaust. Anybody have this issue?? It also chatters for a couple seconds when it starts cold?? I know on my tundra the techs said it was made for 87 and would run worse with high octane is this the case with the silverado. I know I was a little spoiled with my 07 tundra with the 5.7 but this is rough

13K miles on a 2010? Damn I thought my 6700 was alot.

If it's a 4x4, the reason you can't do a burnout is the selector is prob set at automatic and it's in 4 wheel drive since it thinks you need more traction. Also make sure traction control is turned off. 4x4 or 4x2.

And yes, pulling a boat up hill with a headwind = your truck slowing down at hwy speeds. There is a ton of wind resistance and weight you have to overcome when towing

I agree with no power when stopped. The 5.3 has all kinds of power but gm@has programmed them to be gutless. My 06 was not as bad, but would not brake torque well. Sometimes you just want to bake the tires. When I mash the pedal from a stop, I have hesitation. Nothing like pulling into traffic a half second slower than you expected.

If you think the 5.3l is gutless on a stock tune, you need to drive a stock VMax 6.0l it is worse than the 5.3l.

I dont know about that, my 06 vmax was a rocket. Completly out of the box I raced a trans am with a 6.6l and I was on his bumper to 100 mph.

What gearing did it come with? that makes a lot of diff.

The 2006 trucks have pretty good stock tunes, not the 2007-2009 Vortec Max trucks. On a stock tune, my V-Max has a 4 second delay in power when trying to go WOT, a lot of Torque Management, speed limiter set at 92mph, when flooring the truck the truck doesn't respond instantly. Now with an aftermarket tune, it is a completely different truck.

Can you elaborate a little on what and where the tune helped you the most? I have a 6.0 Vmax 4x4 on 35" tires and i need power badly!! Im having Justin do an in person tune next month sometime but im just curious where you noticed most of your difference at. Also what gas did you elect to run?

Thank you!!

your probably have 3.42..gears..i have no problem smoken my tires..or pulling stuff up hills.

I think he has the XFE model, which comes with the 5.3l with 3.08 gears mated to the 6 speed automatic.

On my first tune which I got back in 2008, I went with a 91 octane performance tune. It was a completely different truck, I removed the 4 second delay, removed 80 percent torque management, turned off AFM, changed transmission shifts points, removed speed limiter. After the tune, the truck was great. I could use all my power, the truck responded instantly when accelerating. When merging to another lane I would accelerate and the truck would get going with no problem. No more lag in power, got it up to 130mph. The transmission shifts way better, with the AFM turned off I would get better mileage with normal driving. Right now, I'm on stock tune. The stock tune is worse than I remember. Need to get my Black Bear Tune back, you will love the way your truck drives after it is tuned. Best mod that I have done so far.

I put 4.56 gears in my 08 5.3 and it would smoke the Nitto 35's.

I have a stock set of 3.73 out of that 08 in the garage that would wake up the 2010 5.3.
