Was The 5.3l Avaible For 3/4 Ton Pu In 2000 & 2001?

Why in the world would anyone want a 5.3 in a 2500.

The 5.3 is a turd for lower end torque. It was barely enough for a 1500 until GM came out with the 6 speed tranny.

6.0 has more torque and gets the about the same mileage. Also cost GM nearly the same to make.

According to friends that have the 6.0 , the mileage is not even close.to the 5.3l Like 20% less MPG.

GM offered in gas motors the 4.3l, 4.8l, 5.3l in the 1/2 ton, but only the 6.0l in the 3/4 Not sure why they did not also offer the 5.3l in 3/4 ton frame, it makes no sense.

I drove a 99 2500 with the 5.3 and it was pretty doggie made my choice of getting the 6.0 much better

I will agree to disagree as I have a 5.3 1500 and know what it's capable of and what it has already done with a 4 speed. The 6.0 of the time were talking is relatively only a small % more power vs the 5.3 in my truck. Plus with all the upgrades that everyone does to any of these size engines to increase power would lead me to believe that a 5.3 would be an acceptable choice to put down in 2500 of that era.

I respectfully disagree. Towing/hauling capabilty is mostly based on the area under the torque curve - not peak values (which is why diesels excel in this area).

Most if not all of the upgrades I have seen done to the 5.3 move the torque and horsepower peaks higher up in the rpm range - at the sacrifice of lower rpm torque values (superchargers excluded). Maybe helps at the dragstrip but not in a big heavy truck or when towing/hauling.
