New Truck And Lift

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new 2010 Sierra. Love the truck but want to life it and put 35's on it.

I spoke with authorized retailer that was recomended by the dealership to do the life and wouldnt affect the warrranty.

They wanted almost 11 grand to do the lift and a couple useless upgrades.

I priced the lift and tires by a local guy that has done great work for years and has a awsome reputation. His price for lift and tires and wheels was 5 grand...WTF

Will the warranty be an easy out but I dont want to give 6 grand away just to keep gm happy...

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your imput

What kind of lift was priced? 6+" I hope. Every dealership is different. I think when I bought my truck I was told i could go up to 3" without affecting the warranty. But I know not all dealerships say that. If you do lift your truck and something breaks on your truck that may have been caused by your lift then the dealer more than likely will try to blame the lift. I would NOT pay 11 grand for that type of work.

What type of lift, and how big are you going with? NO way would I pay that much extra for keeping the warranty, and who knows if they may honor it after they lift it anyway. The way I would look at it would be you can fix a lot of stuff for 6 grand

he 11k company use a fab-tec lift package ... what ever that is

The 5 k guy is going to use a BDS 6 " lift, Nitto terra grappler and 20" XD rims

I understand the 11K company does alot of other "goodies" but to be honest all I want is a lift, tires and wheels. I would prefer to add my own signature to the truck

GO with the BDS kit.

Yea. I don't get how someone can quote you 11k for stuff you don't want. If you go with the BDS kit wheels and tires then you shouldn't need to use your warranty unless you abuse your truck.

a 6" BDS lift and 35" tires with install I suppose 4-5 grand sounds right.

looking at probably 2-2500 just for the lift w/ install, and another 2500 for wheels/tires.

You guys got it right. I was going to use 20's with the Nitto terra grappler. I havent seen a truck with 22's?

How do they look?

HAHA, 11k for a basic 6" lift and some "goodies?" For 11k, you can do a solid axle swap with a D60 and coil-overs! I'd pay 11k for a lift, wheels and tires, re-gear, and a super charger though :o)

22's, not a fan. The tires then look like rubber bands. Just doesn't mix with me.

Wow real nice looking truck! I like the 20's with the 6. But is 6" too much for a daily driver? Most people I talk to and drove a friends of mine... the 6" BDs lift rode amazing

Its all about preference and opinion. I daily my truck in the winter and half/half in the warmer months as I ride my bike a lot. I have no problem with it. Gas is pricey these days and your MPG will suffer, but its up to you.

I drive a work van all day for work.. I like the idea of treating myself to a sweet ride after work. and something I can sneek money into without my wife breakin my ballz

I love the look of your ride.

Is that a 6" life with35's

Right now im gettin 16 with the truck stock... maybe 12 after? maybe better or worse?

Yeah I hear you. Once I did all my exterior upgrades/mods, its easier to sneak stuff into/onto the truck. Now its performance time. Just re-geared it finally.

Thanks man, its the Fabtech 6" which nets almost 8" of lift with 18's/35's. I love it! You should have the new 6spd so you may get slightly better then 12. I average 11.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
