Well, since the General started some aviation talk I figured I'd start a thread to find out some of the favorite aircraft of the members here.  List anything, military, civilian, commercial, vintage, present... :)

Fixed-wing...

Lockheed Martin F-16CJ Fighting Falcon

Lockheed Martin (General Dynamics) F-111/FB-111 Aardvark

Boeing (Rockwell) B-1B Lancer

Panavia Tornado GR4

SAAB J35 Draken

Convair F-106 Delta Dart...The Sexy Six

Republic P-47D Thunderbolt

Rotary Aircraft...

Sikorsky MH-60K Night Hawk

Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) AH-64D Longbow Apache

And of course my favorite rocket...the Genie unguided nuclear air-to-air rocket...lol :D

I don't know alot about aircraft but I've always liked the A10 Thunderbolt or Warthog.  Not sure what the difference is-I see it called both names but it has a reputation for being one of the tougher aircraft in our arsenal. The main weapon is a 30mm auto cannon and the plane is designed  for close ground support mainly as an anti-tank weapon.

I remember seeing that a couple A10s actually managed to shoot down some Iraqi helicopters durng the Gulf War.  Not sure if they used missiles or the 30mm!   :)

Yeah the A-10A is a bad@ss plane.  Gotta love an aircraft that was built around a big freakin' cannon.  I have some tanker friends who are scared to death of the A-10, cause it could tear one of our tanks to peices, and there are very few systems that can do that, and we own most of them... :D

My all-time favorite plane is the SR-71 "nicknamed Blackbird". I wish that the U.S. would have gotten those armed SR-71 off the drawing board, and into the air.

My favorite plane that was "made" but never "made" was the XB-70 Valkyrie. I think we should have a few of those ready for service, what happen to the one that crashed was an accident.

My favorite current plane is the F-22, too bad we only have a few of those if we ever need them!!!

wait a second...............why dosen't the airforce site mention the F-16? ???

And I noticed that the F-22 is scarce cause it's not replaced the F-15 till 2005

Probably just have to look around more.  Trust me the Air Force uses a $hitload of F-16s, which I am sure Tom can atest too.

Yeah they are still in the testing phase with the F-22, they don't open general production for a couple of years, the first squadron is supposed to be started here in Nevada at Nellis AFB so that they can intergrate the plane and tactics into the Weapons School and all.  Can't wait to see it and the F-35 (JSF) when they are all in service.  :)

Boy do I have a list....

B-1 Bomber

C-5A: Cargo plane, think of it as the Hummer H2  of aircraft, it's one huge-ass mother.

SR-71

C-130: This one is mostly used for Re-fueling fighter jets in mid-air (I think)

F-16: these things are so friggin cool.

B-17: I love that movie, "Memphis Belle", has anyone else seen it?

P-51 Mustang: Gotta love hearing those engines fire up!

I noticed that nobody here other than Sincity (Edit: Silly me!) has yet to mention helicopters, so I guess I'll go.

Appache: Ultimate Assault Helicopter. Gotta love them.

If anybody ever makes their way out to D.C, I suggest paying a visit to the Air & Space museum over there. They've got some neat stuff there.

Also, ifyouget the chance to go to an Air Show, I suggest going to that too. I've seen all but one of the aircraft on my list at Air Shows.

All time favorite, B-17 Bomber

Favorite modern A/C, F-16.  :D  And yes, plenty of F-16 in use these days.  Various bomb loading pics

Speaking of airshows, my base is having our bi-annual airshow on October 19th.  Here's some info on the event.  Shawfest 2002  If anyone close to Shaw AFB (Sumter, SC) is interested in coming, just let me know.  The base is open to everyone at that time.  They only show 3 A/C being on static display at this time, but it hasn't been updated since May 2002.     Anyone who may want to attend, let me know and maybe we can meet up somewhere.  :)
