Gentlemen,

Two weeks ago my service soon light came on. Read code and it was a knock sensor out of spec.

1 week ago light went out. I thoght a wire got wet and later dried out. Now I notice that the bulb is burned out. Can this lamp be replaced easily or do I have a mess?

You sure it burned out? I think it's an LED, and they seldom burn out. That's weird if a LED burned out. But, it's replaceable with another LED if you can solder. Does it not light when you turn the key to the run position?

When it came on, I just planned on replacing the knock sensor. Then I had lunch with a friend, I have since thanked him for fixing my truck, I think he "laid hands" on my hood or something.

No, it does not come on with the key on and engine not running. Pretty sure it is burned out. I guess it is like replacing bulbs in radio. Hopefully it is not too bad a job.

I am now emailing my friend angrily blaming him for the failure.

Good luck, but I've seldom seen a LED blow!

Lights in clusters before 2003 were replacable bulbs.

The actual lights were, but the CEL is a Soldered LED. The replaceable status lights were the two blinkers, bright beam, and cruise light. Not the cel or the abs or the brake light or the 4wd or the tow/haul.

I really appreciate the info. So we are quite sure the cel is a led? That is interesting. I have never seen one of those quit either. Now what?

On my 2001, the CEL is a LED. I'm pretty sure the 2000 is pretty much the same.

Some type of friend you have there

He simply took the bulb out of your I/P cluster...

Remember the fix...a knock sensor and a set of intake gaskets...

...oh...and one I/P cluster bulb...

I just don't know how he did it. Some kind of spooky thing. Truck runs absolutely flawless though.

You can still have a SES light on, a SES bulb missing, and a flawless-running vehicle. All at the same time. And that's exactly what you have.
