Painting The Chrome Front End And 2 Toning Truck

i have done body work in the past but it has been a few years. not only that, i am a little hesitant to start stripping down and painting a near new truck that isnt in need of repairs.

i despise the fake chrome on these trucks. especially the 2 end peices on the bumper. i have yet to see a 2500/3500 with color matched bumpers. i think it will look great and have seen many 1500's from the factory like that. has anyonedone this to their truck? what were the steps in prepping the fake chrome? i am also doing a 2 toneabout 8 inches up from the bottom of the truck. chev dropped the ball on the fender flares in the rear of the truck. they are a flying rock catch! this truck has 10X the rock chips as my 06 every did!

i was thinking of starting with a 200grit then 400, 800, 1000, primer, then paint for the chrome sections. any input would be greatly appreciated!

I would start by using 80 grit until its all dull no shiney spots. Work your way up to 400 grit maybe 600 grit sandpaper. Then prime and i used bulldog adhesion promoter to help reduce rock chips.

I just did my chrome bumper. I used 80 grit until hazy. Then I used self-etching primer and went to spraying (all rattle can). I finished up by wetsanding with 600 and then 1500, and then I used rubbing and polishing compound and it came out great.

Here are a couple HD's with the front ends painted to match.
