eddinger Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 I was wondering if I could replace my old heads with a set of Vortec heads on my 3/4 ton Suburban? I'm not looking to get as much power out of it as possible, just a little more. If I can free up some funds I might do a few things to the lo' girl(93 TBI C2500 454).
becker87 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Never done it myself, but i have heard you can. The vortec heads breath a lot better and are lighter then the ones in your TBI. I use to have a 94 half ton silverado with the 350 TBI and was considering the same swap but never looked into any details about it.
04JJHD Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 I know you will at least have to get a different intake manifold. I'm sure some company make one
jro909 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 i believe it is one of the must do mods for TBIs....save your funds and get rid of those gawdy hub caps lol
eddinger Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 IT IS VERY HIGH ON THE LIST OF THINGS TO DO.
66nova Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 You can do this swap and it's worth quite a bit of power. BUT, you will need a different intake manifold. You have basically two options here. You can either buy the intake that GMPP makes which is a direct swap. It will fit the vortec heads and has a mount for your TBI. This intake is pricey...around $350 to 400. Or you can buy a 4 barrel carb vortec intake and buy an adapter plate to fit your TBI. This is a cheaper and just as good of route to go.
