Tri Fold Hard Cover

Recommended Posts

My current truck has Fold-A-Cover that I'm quite happy w/ & would like to get another for my new truck. However I see the shop that I deal w/ now carries Extang tri-folds.

I had a Extang soft tonneau cover in the '90s & it was OK, but not entirely pleased w/ it.

If anyone has experience w/ the Extang HARD covers, please post the good or bad things about it.

i know an old thread, but i have an etang tri-fold cover and just love it, water tight, and not flimsy, good choice IMO.

I have the Extang Solidfold, bought it in Winter 08 I think. Pretty watertight, VERY easy to put on/take off. Only thing I notice is that it isn't quite flush on the bottom corners at the back. This is mainly because of the way the bed rails slope down on the corners of my 08 Sierra(NBS) because I don't have any railcaps or spray in.

Great cover overall.

how about Bak-Flip

I too am in the market for a hard top tonneau cover

I was looking at the bak-flip as it is loackeable using your tailgate

I bought a BAK-FLIP a few weeks ago and love it...highly recommended!

+1 on the BakFlip. I have the F1 and am very happy with it. It isn't totally waterproof though. It stays mostly dry back there but a heavy rain could see some moisture in the bed. I think that is the tradeoff for having it flush with the top of the bed instead of over the rails.

Just bought a 2010 Sierra Quad cab and am considering the bakFlip F1. My concern is I'd like to add the GMC Bed rail caps for appearance (they match the tailgate cap) and am unsure if they will interfere with the bakflip installation.

Does anyone have this setup and if so have you encountered any issues with it? I realize these things aren't 100% water proof, but adding caps may insert more leaks which I'd like to avoid.

Secondly, if anyone can recommend a better folding tonneau cover, I'm all ears. So many to choose from.

Any feedback would be great.

Thanks.

Do you have bed rail caps with yours?

I seen the Extang hard folding on a 5'8" bed last week when i picked up my new fiddy, and it looks like a well built, well sealed cover.

off topic a lil bit...

but for people looking at soft folding covers, the LUND Genesis, which is like 350 bucks, worked awesome! went thru winter without a problem. its about 95 percent waterproof.

I feel like this is a never ending fight but every time one of these threads comes up I tell everyone that I swear by my Fold-A-Cover G4.

I like how you can flip the back panel up to throw things in quickly and the fact that the section behind the cab opens to allow you to grab things in the front of the bed quickly is really handy. It folds up quickly to allow easy access to 3/4 of the bed without blocking the back window when hauling large items and if you need the whole bed it is quickly removed with two bolts....

Also, the new latch system on the G4 is great and it also locks your tailgate without the need for an additional lock.

The fold-a-cover only locks at the ends and not in the middle panels. Also I believe this is a top of bed mount as opposed to inside the rails. No? If so, no rail bars with the G4.

I'm looking for anyone who has installed an insdide mount BakFLip where all panels lock but have installed WITH GM bed rail caps. Need to know if there are any issues with that config.

The Fold-a-cover G4 does have a mechanism that locks the middle down. Also it is a top of bed cover but the bed rail caps won't make a difference as long as there are knockouts for the stake holes in the top of the bed.

I'm on my second Solid fold right now as the first one was defective and leaked water EVERYWHERE. The new one doesn't leak but the seals suck when I open up the seal peels off and sticks everywhere right at the hinge. You basically have to re-stick the rubber seal back into place. Its been holding up so far though.
