what you mean about the plugs and wires. you said should be prewired at the door but not the mirror? wouldnt the new mirror with flasher have the plug withthe flasher wire

As long as the current mirrors you have are the power/heated ones (RPO DL8),the turn-signal mirrors (RPO DL3) are plug-n-play.

You will need to get your truck reflashed for the power-fold feature to work, however the turn-signal feature will work,I've done many DL8 to DL3 swaps on '03-'07 trucks.

well i am not sure if my truck is sle1 or sle2. but i know i do not have power folding/heated/turn signal mirrors

I replaced the DL8 power mirrors (adjustment only, no power fold, no signal) on my 2006 Silverado with the DL3 power fold signal mirrors a couple of years ago. If the GMC is the same, which I'm pretty sure it is, it's just a plug and play situation. You do need to replace the the mirror switch in the drivers door with the one that supports the power fold feature. Once the switch is replaced everything just plugs in. Some people said that the truck needs to be programmed to accept the change but my truck did not, the mirrors worked when plugged in.

Terry, some trucks need reflashed some don't,on some you don't even need a new mirror switch, the original one will work when the truck is reflashed, although I would get the correct switch myself to have the power-fold icon.

The rear window defrost button also turns on the mirror heat....your friends truck either has a sliding rear window,or a solid window with no defroster.

he has no rear defrost. and now is only one of my mirrors heated. when it gets cold here in florida, god forbid, i did notice my rear window defrosts and my driver mirror does but not so much the passenger mirror
