I'm looking at trucks and came across a 2005 2500HD Duramax and an Allison that has 150,000 miles on it.

Do the Duramax have any issues that I need to be aware of ?

Problem areas: Transfer case pinholes, for the 2005 the #2 and #7 injector harness could start to lose connection, there is a potential rub through in the wiring harness as it goes over/around the alternator. The front wheel bearings should be checked as well as check for play in the steering system from worn pitman and idler arms (mostly from torsion key raising and large tires). I think all trucks from this era have potential issues with the blower motor resistor failing. Oh, and the LLY was the only Duramax which people maintain has overheating issues. I have never witnessed it, but there are several that claim that all of them will overheat in the right conditions. The factory fix was the LBZ intake and finally the turbo inlet elbow off an LBZ, I don't think that this fixed the seriously overheating trucks but there are those that have added auxiliary radiators known as a V2 on dieselplace.com.

As far as the 150K, I wouldn't be any more worried about that than a truck with much fewer miles with the exception of continuous abuse with a programmer or a raised front end causing wear on steering components and wheel bearings. I would hope that they would have changed all of their fluids from front to rear at least once if not twice.

I too am looking to buy a 2005 GMC duramax with 93K miles on it. I am not new to diesels but I have never owned one myself. I really like the truck, I have taken it for a test drive and it runs and drives great. Im just worried that I dont want to kick myself in the ass for trading a good truck for something not good.

I was looking at an 05 as well but have come accross an 07 with the "D" code motor. Does it have any issues like the injectors of the "2" code LLY?

150k is a drop in the bucket for the drivetrains life...pay for attention to the rest of the truck
