05 Denali Passlock

Hello

I have a 2005 denali and I havent been able to start it. Couple weeks ago, some idiot was caught in the middle of trying to steal my denali. The top column cover was off and that's all that I noticed. No other damage or tampering (that I could see). Anyhow since then, the passlock light stays on and will not go off. I put the key in and it cranks, starts, then dies right away. I've searched the web over many times. Tried all the versions of the "relearn" process and none worked.

In the book it says when security light is flashing... then do relearn. If the light stays on solid, needs service.

What can I do? Anyone have any ideas on what to check for this vehicle? I cant afford to tow it to dealer and get dealerammed right now...

After reading all the info, would there be an issue with using any particular key? I purchased this denali used a year ago and the key does not look like the "original" but looks more like a spare. I'm not 100% sure if this is the case (not sure what original key would look like) but if it is a spare or copy key, would that be an issue with passlock?

I would be most grateful for any info you think may help.

Thank you

The GMT800 has no special key the passlock is in the tumbler and housing. I suspect the thief has cut or damaged the sensor or wiring.

Thanks for the reply. On top of the column, there was one wire harness that plugs into top of ignition. It was still intact and plugged in. Since no visual damage, I figured he was caught just in time... but of course, all assumption.

At least though, can eliminate the key being the problem then.

Thank you for your reply...

I went ahead and pulled the cover back off and started checking out the wires and plugs. I made sure that back one (white) was plugged in properly and pushed in on the wires to make sure they're not loose. Then on the top plug, it was loose. It was sitting in there but not clamped in. I noticed the far right wire was loose on the black plug. So I pushed in all the wires hard into the black plug and plugged in back in. Then I armed (locked) the truck with the remote, waited for the security light to go off. Then unlocked and tried to start it... and BINGO! It started! After two damn weeks of this crap...

So now it runs, but the security light stays on...

Thank you all for your input.
