Have any of your ever seen the electrical plug on the back of the AC compressor break off and leak freon? If so is this a full compressor replacement or can the plug be fixed?

Generally there is a circlip holding the switch in. You should be able to remove the circlip and pull the switch out and replace it. To be done correctly you should then an minimum have the system placed under a vacuum for 30 minutes to remove all moisture before recharging.

What would I ask the parts store for, they say they don't have an "A/C" switch..

You'd need to go to a dealer for that part most likely. Most parts stores just sell a compressor.

They will have it. I have been out of the trade for many years, but it is likely a low level or low pressure switch, used to protect the compressor from low refrigerant levels.
