Everyone With Drop Shackles....

On my '03 the previous owner installed lowering shackles. They appear to be set to get as low as it can. This truck rides very rough. The rear of the truck is so stiff the if I jump up and down on the rear bumper it bearly moves. The front feels just right. They also installed Gabriel Ultra shocks and I don't know if they are the correct shocks either. I pulled the rear shocks off and of course the rear of the truck moved up and down freely. So I am wondering if I can just buy some belltech shocks and be done with it. Kind if a crap shoot really. I also am thinking of getting some stock shackles and putting those on to try it but I really have zero time to mess with this. Any idea's?

changing the shackles will only change the ride height not the stiffness of the suspenion

lmao! That would change it for real.

Shackles work by lowering the rear mounting point of the leaf springs, therefore keeping the stock ride.

It could be that the truck has the wrong length shocks (too long) and if they are compressed right now they will ride stiff. I have never lowered a truck but returning it to the stock ride height (stock shackles) would fix it if that was the case.

I was just looking up the part number for the Gabriel shock that is on this truck and it appears it may be the wrong shock period. I will look a little more into it tomorrow and post what I find. Man I hope I can smooth this thing out.

ya wrong shock will def do it. If you want to keep the drop shackle you should look for a rear shock taht is 2" shorter than OEM

Talked to Adam at Belltech and he said he same and gave me the p/n for the shock I needed. Looks like I might have to wait a few days for them to get here. I will update when I get them on. Thanks for the info.

sure thing. I have never owned a lowered truck before in my life but it made sense to me so glad you found some help at belltech to confirm this and point you in the right direction.
