Removing Grille On 2010 Sierra?

Recommended Posts

I have removed the top radiator support and the 4 bolts underneath. got the six clips out, but i have no idea on how to get the top part of the bumper off of a 2010. I have read that on older trucks, it comes off with minimal work but i have no idea what is keeping it on and it has to come off to get the grille off. Where are the screws that take off the bumper cap? are they inside the wheel well, and do i have to take off the inside lining of the wheel well. any help?

It is a pain in the Arse! But can be done. Just angle the top out and the bottom has plastic guides that interlock with the bumper cover. take your time and it will come out.

Takes about 15 minues. Best if it comes apart like this (when I was swaping grilles)ng_03.jpg

You need to take the bumper cap off to take the grill out (on my truck this was 100% required at least... not sure if other grills are different).

To take the bumper cap off (which takes 5 minutes btw, so there's no reason not to take it off if it'll help get the grill out) there are two small screws in each wheel well. The cap then pops off, out away from the bumper.

.... for some reason i remember there being another screw that goes upwards through the top of the bumper cap. Just give it a good look over to make sure all the screws are out before trying to pull it away. It's probably just those two on each side, but no more than 3 on each side (been too long since i did it..).

You do not have to remove the wheel well liner. You might want to take a few of the clips out so you can pull the liner back to check for that 3rd imaginary screw that im thinking of though

It's a little nerve wracking when you pull the bumper cover off. You almost have to pry on it until you think it might break something. Those little snap in fasteners are stubborn. Good Luck!

Are they phillips screw or what? i am not seeing them

They are 2 7mm screws just in front of the tire in the lower surround that goes under the headlights. take these out then while holding the surround carefully pull it outwrads while giving it a little wiggle to relese the clips. The 6 metal clips on the grille are the hardest to release, just needle nose pliers on these

How are they different? GM lists the filler panel as 07-11 GMT900 in Mitchell database with the same part number.

the reason i say they are different is becasue there is more than the obvious two screws in the wheel well holding it on. there are screws inside that go up to hold it on.

Actually they are clips where the fender meets the filler. It's been a while on mine but I believe there was one somewhat hidden screw under there too.

Thank you. Its probably a lot easier when you know what you are looking for especially for a mechanic who has done it more than once!
