apologies in adv but I couldn't figure out which forum for this question

I have a 33.5' travel trailer weighing 7500-8500 loaded.

Which truck would you recommend if I'd like:

new or used (more likely)

crew cab

gasser

ability to tow anywhere and everywhere

short bed

automatic

4wd

Well you could probably avoid going diesel.... But I would give serious thought to a 3/4-ton (2500HD) for the "tow anything anywhere" requirement.. 3.73 gears minimum, but 4.1 gearing would be ideal... And technically, you could do it with a 1500 as well, I've towed a 29 ft travel trailer, about 7000lb loaded, with an '09 Silverado 1500 (1/2-ton), 6.0L gas, 6-spd trans, and 3.73 gears with no issue from Vancouver to Calgary.

2500HD 6.0 6spd, crew cab 6' bed

:tear: 3.73's will be ok but try to find one with 4.10's. You might want a bigger trailer in the future.

The TT is brand new - I know all about the RV itch and I will resist upgrading it anytime soon(;

We're good for +/-12 trips a year with the TT.

This truck would be used as a daily driver for the work commute. I don't really NEED a truck for anything else so I've ruled out diesel. Although they're fantastic to tow with I'm told, I can't really justify the extra expense of one.

A 1500 over the 2500 would be great if I could get away with it easily, comfortably, and safely. The dealer will tell me all sorts of stories so I figured I'd go to the ppl that actually do it.

You "could" tow it with a 1500 but I would go 2500. I use my 2500 as a daily driver. The only drawback I see between a 1500 and a 2500 is the 2500 will ride alot rougher. With a crew cab 2500 you will get a true 6.5' bed if that matters to you. Since you tow around 12 times a year I think you should go 2500.

If you are willing to buy new as opposed to used, buy a 2011 GM truck. The new 2011 HDs have an all new frame that are more capable then the past ones, they also include largar brakes and better looking wheels and tire combos IMO. The 2010s and earlier trucks will do the job just fine but the new ones are deffinately more capable.
