Maf Sensor Making Noise

Recommended Posts

My 2003 GMC 2500HD with 6.0 has started idling rough and surging at idle. Today I notced that when the idle would drop off the MAF sensor would make a sound similiar to a grinding sound then the idle would come back up. I cleaned the sensor and when I first started it it ran fine, but I revved it up and when it come back down to idle it started doing it again. The grinding sound comes in 10 second intervals and lasts about 1 to 1 1/2 seconds. The truck starts and runs down the road fine. The check engine light isn't on. Didn't know if it would throw a hidden code or not.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

for some reason I can't imagine a MAF making a grinding noise but Im not there. they are usually just a pice of plastic and a small wire that measures the passing air. I would almost dare to say something in the airbox is making noise. but anyways.

if you cleaned it and that seemed to help I would try to clean it again, if it help again you may just have to replace it. they do go bad over time.

Sensors do not make noise. Except the ones on the Starship Enterprise.

:)

Are you confusing the MAF with something else? MAF is right next to the airbox on the intake tube. This is where all this grinding noise is coming from?
