I have one of those GM cards that I have racked up a little over $1700 worth of points towards the purchase of a new vehicle. However, a new 2500 I can only use up to $1500 because there is a cap. Last time I used the points back in 2005 they doubled my points as a promotion. Do they do that anymore? Just curious. What really hacks me off is that I also have a GMSD but can't use the points on the card in combo with this. Seems like the days of the deals are gone or at least harder to come by.

I'd guess that the offers are back to normal since the economy seems to have improved. I have about $5000 worth of GM card credit. I usually use a card that offers bigger bonuses. I just use the GM Card enough to keep it alive.

They do up your points during the year. I think they have offered this (max out at 3K) twice in 2010.

How do you find out when they do this? I don't recall ever seeing anything in the mail about offers like this.

Seems they can control how the points are used. I'm under the old plan if that is even still around. Which I can only use up to $3,500 towards a new GM vehicle.

Yes, but you can use all of accumulated dollars toward purchase of any vehicles, even if there is a limit for other cards. For example, you could use all of $ 3,500 whether buying a $ 50k truck or a $ 12K Aveo. For other cards there would be a maximum rebate limit on cheaper vehicles, such as $ 1,000.
